Spending up to £2500 on new camera

Yup..im willing to spend all my money on this new camera , as soon as we get it im telling you now randumb will improve, ALOT.

We will restart the dvd so its very good quality and we hope you will support us with whatever along the way.

just a canon mv730i..not good enough for a DVD..

getting an awesome camera dont make you better at stunts. skits or film making. look at steve-os earlier shit..had shit cameras but great stunts...the quality didnt matter too much

That's what I was going to say... spending that much on a camera is almost pointless.. sure you might impress 10 people on homegrown forums... but your not going to get famous or anything.

buy a mini sony for 300. buy props with the resat and if using fire please buy the safety shit...you have the money...we didnt.

I agree with webby....just because you have a good camera doesn't mean you are going to be good with it....
and there's not much point in a HD camera because it only works on HD TVs....all others it'll look like an ordinary 3ccd....
go with a basic 3ccd camera and save the rest, or buy equipment like lighting and mics....

Anyways Dan, stay away from the Sony HD cam. It would be premature to buy an HD cam when 99% of the population is still using SD televsion sets. You cannot notice HD quality on an SD set. Not sure if that makes sense, but basically...I would hold out. I personally wouldnt even know what to do with a camera like that, and I have alot of experience using broadcast cams.

I cant give any advice in reguards to canons. They are the 1 brand I know little about. All I know is I used an xl2 and I wasnt really impressed.

Here is a tip though. Buy from this site. They're the cheapest site on the web, and they offer NTSC and PAL. You should find what you want from there. I reccomend the vx2100.

also stay away from the HD cameras because you will need a really powerful pc to edit in HD not to mention most video edditing apps are now just supporting the format. I would have a look at the Panasonic AG-DVX100A.

for what you guys are doing, I agree with webby. save your money. mainly you are just showing your videos to your friends. invest in other production supplies. buy 2 inexpensive sony cameras, shoot 2 angles.

when you buy a nice camera like that and it breaks you will be kicking yourself in the ass.

I would definitely get the camera dfilm recommends. It's a heavy duty camera for shooting "real" stuff on digital. A lot of the things you see on TV and on DVDs, etc., like documentaries and behind the scenes stuff, is shot on this model Panasonic cam. Also for an example of a feature being shot with it, I believe Clerks 2 is being shot using DVX100s.

It takes more know-how to use one effectively, but you can pick it up as you go. This cam is worth it just for the "frame movie mode", which takes movies at 24 frames per second instead of 30, making it look a lot more like a "real movie".

edit: I would get the cam dfilm recommends IF you are deadset on getting an expensive cam. if it were me, I'd go with the advice of some of the others who say not to get an expensive cam at all. honestly a ~$300 sony is going to do you right for this kind of thing.

In all honesty, you dont really need a flashy whizz-bang camera. Just one that does the job.

if someone if offering to teach you AVID go for it. Seriously thats a great skill to have if you plan on being in the TV/FILM industry. The only thing is alot of post production companys are making the move over to Final Cut Pro because it is cheaper and doesnt require custom hardware.
