Ipod question/ reformatting pc

Tonight I am going to reformat my pc. Which means everything, all of my files will be lost. Apart from using loads of dvd-discs to put files on, could I put them all on my ipod instead?

I have a 60gb ipod so storage problems dont bug me. I know I can use it as a hard-disk, but there's just one problem. When I re-boot my pc and go to install my ipod again, it has to be formatted. When that happens will it wipe the memory of the ipod and all my saved downloads and files that I need to live on this planet?

Just put it on discs to be safe man.

yer I think that is the safest option, just that my files I need in my documents alone are 50gb+, let alone the other users. So thats 11 dvd discs gone straight away (4.7gb capacity), which is a pain, because they don't come cheap.

Get a external drive and save them to that. Or save them on another computer if you have 2.

Also, so I dont have to search for this, do you, or anyone else know of any programs for burning files onto dvd-discs, because I dunno if nero can do it.

I bought a 160gb hard drive for about £50 then an external case for about £15. Still can't get the cunt to work though
