I personally don't think it's necessary.
As others have said, it would just encouage more spam to the forums if the criteria was to have 1000 posts. Not that we'd notice much, because there's far too much here already.
If the idea does go ahead, I agree with the other members who suggested an invite from a mod, or similar.
