Well in the last couple of days I have got some new pinnacle software, and as a new user to it I would appreciate someone who knows there stuff if they were to just start me off.

Well basically this is what I would like help with...

1. Is it better to capture the video as full DV-quality (AVI), or MPEG?

2. What is a good quality setting for making your video into a wmv. The reason I ask this is just because I would like a setting the provides reasonable quality and framerate, but keeps the size of the file down to normal. If you could also suggest some settings for higher and lower quality it would also be appreciated.

Just a couple of things for now, I will pick up the rest as I go along. Thanks.

1st one AVI.

2nd I don't know, cause I've never used pinnacle.

theres also a lot of updates for pinnacle that you should buy if you can afford it that are really good, like the picture overlay and such.

thaks man, what settings do you use to make a general wmv file for others to download? e.g. frame rate and shit.

Umm, I can't remember exactly. I used Windows Media Encoder and I just mess with the settings until I find a quality I'm happy with.

ok cool. So do you save te video in a hgih quality avi I take it, then use that to make it into a suitable wmv?

1.Definatly dv-avi. Or... it depends. Dv-avi is the best quality but eats lots of harddrive. If you edit your clips just for web and have space problems, you could go with mpg; mpg doesnt need that much space and its good enough for internet.

2.And you dont do wmv´s, specially not with Pinnacle. You make vcd quality mpgs. Period.

those seem so interesting, you cant really do shit with Pinnacle; without updates its just basic wmm.

if you want that the file size would be small and the quality would be good just render it in a wmv file with 1 mb settings...

What's wrong with .wmv files? I mean when using Pinnacle, I think they turn out good,

First mpg is more compatible format, and for exemple Linux or Mac cant watch wmv´s. Second of all the quality is much better, really, test it if you dont believe it. vcd mpg is about 1.5mbs, you can compare it to 2mbs wmv and it still wins. Specially colors look better.

mpg file size is too big for my liking.

I made a video one in mpeg, one in wmv.

mpg was like 80 mb, wmv was like 18.


mpg was better quality, but not by a WHOOOOLE lot....wmv woot.
