It occurred to me today, how professionals in the IT industry, such as me and MADE lack status. People like you assume that the majority of homegrown sites stay up from thin air alone, not acknowledging how we keep the backbones of the world running and how your computer runs smoothly because of people such as myself and a few others.

This is a rant about how you need to respect your general IT technician, and we lack status that doctors and shit do, when we are more talented. So anyway, this is the thread where you praise your sysadmins and the people that keep things running smoothly. And you guys missed sysadmin day.

Not to mention how this industry is becoming crowded with OMG!! Illterate retards, wishing they knew half as much as we do. And not to mention how they employ useless techs stealing our job, when they majorly fuck things up.

Yeah the n00bs coming into the IT world thinking there hip cause they no binary. Whoooooooa big fucking deal. Well when they get to subnet masking then they will be screwed, screwed I tell you. "So you add the left to right and then the network and host portion goes here and..." STFU! GET IT RIGHT TWAT OR LEAVE IT TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THE FUCK THEY ARE ON ABOUT!!!!

Yes indeed, companies such as dell importing a batch of foreign "techs" stealing our line of work and briging dishonesty to the trade. Half of them won't even know how to partition, configure or even SSH into a box. When you ask them a question they don't know you get "hang on a sec" and they search GOOGLE for an answer. Microsoft certified professional my ass, more like certified idiot.

Couldn't have said it better! AND YOU KNOW WHAT? Just because they know how to click around 30 percent of the WINDOWS GUI, not bearing in mind other OS's exist, such as OS X and BSD and *nix variants, where a distro won't get you past ABC, they think "hey, let me be a tech". Tech my fucking ASS, they are useless computer illiterate morons, I give a chicken more credit for knowing what a resistor on a motherboard is!

I agree gman, computer guys run the world, if they weren't about the world would stop. I just got my exam results and I got an A at A-level computing, I start my networking course at the end of August.

WORD! I have met people who only know Windows exists. I swear to god when I was in high school they called the network admin down to the library cause on one of the computers whatever you typed it deleted what was infront of it, anyone with a bit of knowledge should know what the problem was. It took the admin like an hour to solve he fucked with the keyboard settings and everything, and still couldn't solve the problem. I asked him what was wrong he told me and I'm like dude press the insert button again and it will stop doing it. THE FUCKING INSERT BUTTON! He was a dumb fuck who knew fuck all. And according to another teacher Google is bad because it floods us with useless information and wastes bandwidth. What the fuck is he on about?!?!

OMG, thats exactly the kind of idiot I am talking about! People like that should quietly fuck off and never return. I am so pissed off with idiots that feed us their bullshit and refuse to accept they know absolutely nothing. They have to realise you actually need a brain to be in the IT industry.

This reminds me of when I was in GCSE level. I unplugged the main switch on the school network, so all file sharing went down. The "network admin" took apart 5 computers and couldn't figure it out, so just before I left I plugged the hub back in and bingo! It all worked again. The admin was like "OGMWTF happened" the level of stupidity amazes me.

So true, you don't even need to check on a hardware or software level 99% of the time either. Most of the time it is indeed something unplugged. So why can't they figure this out for themself?

This same teacher couldn't figure out how to reformat the computers and wanted to replace Windows ME with XP. Regardless, he decided to install witout format and royally fucked up about 7 computers. Needless to say, he refused student help because the computers "wouldn't let XP run on them properly"

I wish you could have been there to have this teacher we had earlier this year at college. We ended up walking out, with him crying and shouting at another teacher saying "why didn't you help me out then?!" and the other teacher was like "because what they said was correct." its a long story but funny and we owned the fuck outta him, he knew nothing. His opening to the End User lesson was teaching us the order of the planets. I mean what the fuck?!

They put him to try him out and also the regulat tutor was ill. The lesson was one big advert for Microsoft, he had never heard of any other OS either. And alot more dumb things. After me and a mate walked out we went to see our networking tutor who is like the best person ever, and he said that he wasnt even suppose to be in the building as he threw a chair at a network admin.

He told us he had first hand end user experience, we were like from where? He said he used to work on the tills at Sainsburys. :S
