MTV MONO is a series of exclusive programmes aimed specifically at Europe’s prolific extreme sports scene. Sixteen individual programmes detail some of the world’s most daredevil extreme sports moments. The programmes are visually spectacular and cover all the most impressive and diverse extreme sports. The programmes are soundtracked by Quantic and alongside the heavy drums of the title music, which he penned especially for the series, he has delved into the back catalogues of Tru Thoughts, Tru Thoughts 7Sevens (our specialist funk and soul 7 inch label) and Zebra Traffic (our hip hop sister label), including exclusives and unreleased tunes, to create a variety of styles that compliment the range of sports. And now, MTV and Tru Thoughts have joined together to release a double CD album called MONO to reflect the music and style of the programmes. This choice selection is compiled and mixed by Robert Luis and Quantic, with a horizontal CD for the downtempo, mellow, chilled tracks and a vertical CD for the hip hop, soul, funk and breakbeats. The album features a wide range of differing styles, from the lush downtempo vibes of Bonobo, the live funk excursion of eleven piece band The Quantic Soul Orchestra, the breaks and drum sounds of Nostalgia 77 and Mr Scruff and the vocal treats and production of Life and DJ Nappa (Phi Life Cypher), to the comical UK-referencing lyrics of the Chubby Alcoholic and the rest of the Diversion Tactics crew. Also featured is music and remixes by Quantic, Jon Kennedy (Grand Central), Phi Life Cypher, Chris Clark (Warp Records), as well as a number of previously vinyl only releases and exclusive tracks from new signings to Tru Thoughts including the Brazilian drum and bass of Maga Bo and the downtempo delights of Mawglee and The Man Juke.
