All I will say is about the pen tool, and how to use it properly:
1. You click and start making a new path, and if you check the paths tab, there will be a new path layer there, you can rename this if you want.
2. Click again and you have added an ANCHOR POINT, if you click and drag you will get a curve depending on where you move the mouse.
3. Two options now, you can either hold down ALT and do a corner drag to bring it back to where you just clicked, if you did this, then wherever you click now, it will be a straight line unless you click and hold and move. Or you can leave the corner drag alone and click again, now based on where the corner ended up (I.e. where abouts you dragged the mouse to), the next line will be curved automatically. This is the preferred method because it leaves you with smooth connecting segments. BUT if you need a sharp edge, you must do a corner drag to where you last clicked, so you can start from there.
4. Do a set of anchor points and make your path whole by connecting it to the first point you made.
5. You can now do many things with this path: Use it for a vector mask, fill it, stroke it, define a custom shape or make a selection out of it.
6. A tip, holding SHIFT while clicking around will allow you to draw straight lines horizontal or vertical or 45 degrees, same with clicking and dragging to create a curve.
I hope whoever needs this small tutorial will understand what I am talking about
