I bought this computer in the fall of 2006 and its been my main machine ever since. Teamed up with new speakers, mouse and keyboard, and a LCD monitor, it makes a great setup.
The processor is a AMD Sempron 3000+ running at 2 Ghz. Standard memory is 256MB, after getting the computer I put in my 2 512MB sticks from the old machine. It comes with an 75 GB HD that ends up being a 70 GB with the 5 GB’s going to a recovery partition. It doesn’t come with any advanced graphics card. I upgraded my card in the winter to a GeForce FX 5500+ 128 MB DDR AGP card.
As everyone knows the life time of Windows XP is about 3 months, so I’ve already reformatted 3 times. I back up all my data to the secondary hard disk, which I had added in from the other computer, then reformatting takes about 9 minutes. After that I uninstall every game, application, modification, or any other thing from compaq. Then I install all my drivers, games and apps. The whole process usually takes an hour or two to get everything back to normal.
The machine runs everything very well and only slows down occasionally when many intensive apps are open. It also comes with a 9 in 1 card reader on the front, for all you photo people, and a firewire port, either for you video people, or for a external hard drive. There are also USB and audio ports on the front.
Unfortunately it only comes with one official hard drive spot, meaning when I added the secondary hard drive I had to hot rig it in place in a spot meant for a floppy drive, but who uses those anymore.
