Windows 2005 was supposed to be released a while ago, so is several months late. However check some screenshots and PC worlds review of the desktop. Seems like it may suck a tad

Word. I am dissapointed TBH.
And they promised to fix the security issues, according to that review it is as secure as XP SP2. Looks like I shall remain with Linux as MS products are too insecure.

it looks way better than XP at least.
I had to change XP when I got it right away because it looked lame.

No, its not different to XP at all.
Microsoft promised better security, the security on this beta build is the same as XP SP2. The GUI is basically a theme on portions of rewritten XP code.
Microsoft promised installation times of 15 minutes for the entire OS, it takes well over an hour.
Not to mention one of the only things going for it, has been removed from the OS, and visuals have been implemented seemingly from portions of the OSX from Mac.
All in all, for a beta and a product that has taken a whole year to release from their previous test build, its crap. XP is a lot better than this build, so what would be the point in upgrading? More so what was the point in releasing it? And when will this OS be finished? Its well behind schedule, yet the product is worse than a previous operating system.

I can't be arsed to read all that but if its about Longhorn then I heard they were scrapping it because it was costing them to much money. I can't wait to see how Blackcome turns out, that is there new server OS.

I agree, its just I heard that it was costing them way to much so they are scrapping it and adding some of its key features to there Blackcome project.

Well if they started up again producing another OS, their costs will increase more. Besides, I honestly don't think that money is an issue for MS when developing an operating system. If Novell can develop something like SuSe, then MS can develop a new OS easily.

yeah, I think when they first started the Longhorn project they were trying to hard to cram loads of shit into it. Thats why they kept running into issue's with it and having to push the release date back all the time. I really would like to see them produce a decent OS and to be honest I hope this is the one. With all the effort and money going into this project they really deserve to create a winner.

I saw the first screenshot in some PCW magazine in 2004 and it looked a little different to that, but nevertheless kickass, the shots from build 5xxx look crap
