It's a bit biased, not letting windows media files play, I guess there like rivals but still, what about music? .wma?
and does linux have like a special file extension or anything? just wondering.

No, haha. Windows is biased. Its illegal to run .wmv on Linux, you can get software to counteract this, but media support on Suse (what I am using) is crippling for windows codecs, due to patents and copyrights. Linux is actually very good, as you can easily access windows networks probably easier than accessing a Linux to Linux network, you can plug a Windows drive in and read the contents in LInux, but not the other way around. And Linux media files can be in anything without windows in it.
Programs come in self installing rpm's, or .tar.gz files (basically zip files) that you need to unzip and compile to install, and windows programs don't work on Linux unless you get an emulator, and even then it won't work for 80% of progs
