Capturing Video.

What program should I use to capture video from my new cam full quality as a mpg. I have a Sony Handycam HC40. I tried Windows Movie Maker 2 and did not notice a big quality difference from the Hi8 to MiniDV quality and I was told that I would see a noticeable change. It might be my video card but im not sure. I'm thinkin also it was becuase wmm made it a wmv which is not full quality and MPG is. Thanks!

Ask the dudes from Urban Warriors, they've had much better quality since they started using firewire.

firewire teaches you the meaning of good and not good footage. because you usually dont have room for bad footage when ya got a firewire.

I bought a canon video camera a couple of years ago, and canon supplied a firewire/dv card and cables. They also gave some software, but I just use Windows MovieMaker 2

What prog is good to Capture footage with though?

firewire mate, get one.

Use windows moviemaker 2 to capture and edit. Its very basic, but is simple and does the job. Thoroughly recomended.

if you capture in WMM with firewire, it wont work in pinnacle. just lettin you know. most editing programs will let you capture anyway...so just capture with the program youre using.

I always use movie maker to capture cause it's the easiest. Never used pinnacle though.

yeah toms got pinnacle movie maker sony vegas adobe movie maker thign and a few others but we wanted 2 know cuz it was taking really long for one of the videos but we found out we had the file size large : ) our bad we have it now though we prollly will end up getting firewire soon or later

Capture it in Premiere....use a lot of compression, perhaps 50% compression. It's still top quality, and you can fit more on your HD...

when ever I try to capure in premiere the audio is eather missing or fucked up

your computer might be too slow or your harddrive might not be fast enough. What are your computer specs?

And I agree with everyone that says go firewire its the best way to caputre footage from your camera because its virtully lossless compared to other ways and the footage stays digital through the whole process. And for the people saying they dont have enoough room. If you have all your captured footage on your harddrive and want to back it up line it all up in your premiere timeline with about 2sec of black footage between each differnt clip then export it back to your camera so anytime you need the footage you know where it is.

I got a one-sixtygig harddrive 7200rpm 8meg cashe so that should be fine, I think my k7 motherboard could use a sound card but there sould at least b some audio

No! use Pinnacle PCTV Pro v 5.9 (trust me)

It is the best software capture thing that I use.

You can record in any format.

My sony camcorder came with the video capturing program but if you didnt get it use wmm or Nero if you have it because that captures vids too.

I should just quote MYSELF all over again, because Pinnacle PCTV is really good for analog captures!

I use ATI and capture AVI. For high quality.
