I'll try and write this simply so I cover everything haha.
I have 5.1 surround sound speakers, when I test them they all work fine individually as they should do.
However when I go off the configuration bit and play a song on itunes for example the front left and front right speaker work but the side left and right, middle and woofer don't work even though they do when they're being tested.
Is there anything I've done wrong or haven't done that is causing this problem or do any of you guys know how to sort it?
I'd be eternally grateful if you could give me some help

That's what comes up when I run direct x
but I don't think it's the sound card that's the problem because when I test my speakers after I've configured them to 5.1 surround sound they all work fine individually as they should, soon as I run a program with sound though only the 2 front speakers work!

could be that the music is only encoded in two channels.

Stick a DVD on.

Movie should play in surround sound. If its enabled yeah.

Right what was strange about that.
When there was the intro title for universal the side speakers worked and the front speakers worked a little, the middle one didn't though. When I play music though only the front speakers work.
Does that help you at all?

Not really my thing are speakers. But I think its what Marc said, if the tracks are only designed for 2 speakers it will only play on 2 speakers. And the films are usually surround so it will work on that.
Have you configured everything?

Yeah that's what weird, when I configure the speakers to surround sound and test them they're all really clear and fine, but just then when I played the dvd the center speakers wouldn't work and the front speakers weren't too clear either. :S.

I have 5.1 surround and my speakers and sub work on every song I've ever played, is there some kind of audio setting in iTunes that would help with it?
I don't use iTunes so I cant really help with that part of things but anything else I'll try my best.
Also is your output in the 'advanced' in speaker settings from the sound option in control panel set to "5.1 Surround Sound Speakers"?
