New Dexfilms Video

Hey guys.

Well atm youtube has taken a wank on this video with their shitty compression encoding but hopefully the 'watch in high quality' option will soon become available as the quality is fucking stunning, and they really have murdered it.

Its a music video for a mates band called 'A Stranger in Moscow' and the song is called 'Misconstructed Beats'

It was a 5 day shoot and its shot on XDCAM with a Letus pro 35 lens adaptor with Nikon stills lenses.

Please dont comment on the actual youtube page (comment in this thread) as its not officially released and im waiting to see if band are happy with it, as I might have to take it down and re-upload it if the 'watch in high quality' function doesnt become available, but I wanted to give HGF a sneak peak.

Band wasnt really my thing, was ok I guess. But yeah video was sick. Loved when it went to the band playing. I knew it was building up to that and was timed perfectly.

the only thing that bothered me was sometimes it was abit to shakey, which hurt my eyes, but I am sittin way back from my screen so that could have been just my bad.

Film has been put on hold as I'm directing a new feature, which Ive now finished. You will hear about it before end of year. But yeh still need to finish filming protection and get it done, just been super busy this year.

she looked pretty torn up but I dunno, she didn't sell it right, maybe a bit too distressed or something I dunno.

she is fine and famous, doesn't really need to be an amazing actress she'll still get more roles than us.

Be honest. Personally I thought she did a good job, considering its not that easy to be upset on camera, but would like to know you guys opinion.

nice video right there man looked really professional and some really nice shots, props!

there was one little thing that slightly annoyed me sometimes which was the overuse of quick blurred (manual focussed) parts in combination with shakey camerawork. I know you used it as a kind of effect but I think it was a little too much.

edit: hahah mate awesome, I just checked the Protection Feature trailer and loved it! nice little part where u spank that ass haha. Especially the first minute really gets you and makes me curious as fuck so very good job on the trailer!

I do know what you mean. Personally I love handheld in and out of focus shots but you either love it or you hate it, abit like the filming in the bourne films. Also the whole film is manual focus because we used stills lenses, so pretty much any shot with movement required focus pulls to keep everything in focus, and for the majority of it it is in focus so considering the dop didnt have a huge amount of experiance I think he did well.

Also camera that it was shot on (it was the D.O.P's camera) was a Sony EX3 with letus 35 extreme lens adaptor like the one below:

The majority of it was shot with 85mm and 50mm lens, and the odd shot that was in a really closed environment, like the car mounted stuff was a 20mm.


And thanks for your comment on trailer, you not see that when I first posted it a year ago?

I think she did a good job Dex. Not just saying it. Like you said it's hard to look upset on camera. She nailed it. Cant really say much more about acting from that video as you see her for like 30 seconds.

Pretty much what has been said. Song was alright too. Some old school 16mm footage could have suited in there at parts but it was good as it is and since we're all more or less artists on these forums, everyone is bound to have their own preferences. And maybe I'm just thinking too much of videos that already exist, thus ripping off other's work, but I would enjoy having two different artistic layers in a music video of the sort, like one being with the effects you had and then have parts of it with completely different effects. This is coming off so douchy haha, all I really wanna say is that good job, and good luck with getting far. I think you have it in you.
