Hey what's up, it's Ben.
I was just wondering if anyone else has seen the French horror movie Martyrs that came out this fall, because I watched it last night and I have to say that it was probably the most graphic and depressing movie I've seen in probably forever. I know some people here would absolutely love it so that's why I'm posting this here but honestly I am unable to recommend it to anyone because it was so over the top with the violence and the gore in my opinion. It actually went from having some suspense in the beginning to just radiating pure psychological nausea towards the end.
If Saw and Hostel broke some kind of barriers in mainstream cinema, here's probably the next step because this movie didn't have anything remotely 'good' or anything you could relate to in it, everything was just sad and depressing from the beginning to the end. And by 'good' I mean that in Hostel the good guy manages to escape and in Saw, Jigsaw has a motive for what he does. But in Martyrs everything just seems so pointless and it's almost as if the plot was just made as an excuse to show all this gore. If you judge a good movie by it's ability to awake some kinds of feelings in you, you'll like this, and if this movie doesn't do that, well then I guess everything is not alright with you mentally
