K, the problem is I have tried recording sound thats been played through the speakers with many different programs and I just cant get any to work. does anyone know why this?? and can either help me out with software or tutorials or anything please??

use audacity, change the microphone setting to something I cant remember then press record.

Are you sure you're recording for more than two seconds?
Next time, try recording for longer than two seconds, that might do the trick.

the quick way of doing it without using 3rd pary software is..
make a new wav file, right click on it and press record, then just plug a cable going from your speak port into your mic port and jobs a good un.
