Good Handy Cams With Night Vision.

Hey guys.

Im kinda out of the loop nowadays with handy-cam type cameras but I was wondering if any of you can give me some advice about small handycam cameras with good nightvision.

And cheap ones, with hot shoes so that a small rode mics and lights can be attached etc.

ANy info you guys can give me would really be appreciated.

Basically the cameras can be either hdv or dv but they just have to be very good and reasonably cheap.

Any links you guys can give me would be amazing.

the sony HD handy cams are prolly the best thing you'd want. if not def get a sony dv.

Yup, As sony has patented nightvision, thats the brand you are going with.

Dont know the price range you are going for but, the hdv tape cams are fucking awesome models hdr-hc1 - hdr-hc9.

Otherwise there very very cheap dv cams from 100£ to few hundred.

I know dex knows about how much HD tapes are.

besides u can film with reg mini-dvs. but I reccomended the hd model becuase its nightvision is full screen infrared and doesn't look spot lightish. I havent seen a off the shelf camera elsewhere that has nightvision like that.

I haven't seen an HD camera from Sony with a hot shoe though.
I haven't seen a hot shoe on any camera from Sony in a while actually. all the new model handy cams are so simplified they don't even make them with hot shoes anymore.

Any Sony HC model. HC3? HC4? HC5? Whatever one's under £500. I assume all those models exist and they didn't skip numbers.

I have one of those cameras still, but the lcd is broken and all the controls are touch screen.

I guess they always do that. Must be a weak connection somewhere, cause for a little while it worked half closed.

We use a DCR-HC37, it does the job.

Yeah, whenever I have to film something in complete dark without a light, I use an old sony Hi8. Dex, by night vision you mean like, green tinted, infrared? Or the others that have a night vision mode that sucks, like my Canon Optura 60, it just slows down the shudder speed until everything is bright, but so choppy its not even worth filming with.

I used to have canon zr100 it does that same bullshit with the shutter speed so I chucked it against a wall back in the day, decided to use trv260 for strictly night shot use.

hdr-hc series, but those are bit expensive...


So this is cheaper option, dcr-hc series. Those are cheap, tiny and have nightshot. I have my dcr-hc22 allways with me, its tiny you can easily carry it around, because its cheap you aint too bummed if it breaks and with reasonable good picture quality and nightshot its effective for recording suprisiing situations.

And even though people say it breaks easily I have only poistive experiences about my hc22, I have had it in mosh pits, fights, skates have hit it... etc... And still works like new.


Nightvision is patended trademark for recording in infared with handycams. So sonys have that. Other brands just use settings for shooting in low light, low shudder speed, high exposure etc.

vode hit the nail on the head, as my lcd screen dont work I dont carry it with me anymore but I still use it for 2nc angles because if I have my main camera with me, a tiny camera can come along for another shot, weather it be a time lapes of the sky while we do something else or a long shit.

I want to get another one of these for carrying with me at all times.
