How Can I Capture Video From Tv?

I'm going to be connecting a camera to my TV, and streaming video through it, but need a way in which I can then capture that streaming footage to my PC by connecting the two. I have no idea where to begin with any of this but I was hoping maybe someone on here knew a way I could do it.

I'm connecting using RCA cables which is the one thing I cant substitute for an alternative.

Ian has a TV card in his PC which we just got working, but I still don't know how to record it. >_<

usually the tv card will come with software to record to avi. I know most Hauppauge tuners do.

just have a look around. websites selling them will usually say what kind of software it comes with.

Just realised that we can't get the camera to play through his TV card.

So might have to try and connect the TV to the PC as originally thought.

if you buy a tuner, you can just hook up the aerial and do it like that, much simpler

actually just format it and reboot. usually works.

What programs should we use to stream the video from the camera though? We've been trying to use Windows Media Center but that's not working for anything other than whatevers on terrestrial television at that time.

Would premiere stream video through RCA cables?

why would you wanna stream tv through a camera into your pc in the first place?

The nature of what we're filming requires it to be captured as it's filmed because it's a shitty cam we're using, it's our only option.

I wouldnt use that solely because of the USB transfer. maybe if it were firewire, I would feel better about it.

Just so I can clarify, is a capture card has RCA inputs and an aerial port so it can recieve TV, right?

If thats the case, Ian has one in his PC, but when we connect by RCA it doesn't seem to pick up the device has been connected.

then I would suggest trying to FAQ for the card as if it has RCA inputs it should pickup whatever you hook up to it.

Should it read as though it was an external drive being connected? Like the Autoplay menu opening up and shit? Or should I look in Premiere and F5 that beast into capture oblivion?

try both. try everything, buttsecks.

It will not show up like an external HDD. Nor will you get autoplay. Pop up Permiere (or WMM, or Vegas, or hell, any video editor with capture) and pull up capture, and select AV device, or however it's called. It's been a while since I've used that method.

You may be able to find a capture card with firewire, but I doubt it.

We tried opening up WMM and that didn't work. Ian might be getting a new capture card so we'll give that a shot.

And I've got the capabilities for firewire, lol. Just need RCA for this as it's the only available output.

Yeah, I have a capture card (that I used to use before firewire) and that, I would say, is your best bet. Dazzle makes the one I have. Was about 50 or 60 bucks American when I got it a while ago.

Did you install the driver for the capture card? It may be a different driver than the tuner card.

A capture card is the only way to stream through RCA.

Yeah we found a drivers and utilities disc but nothing worked there... I'm thinking there may be some settings on the camera but I'll have to scan it for what they are.

I've used the Dazzle, the one I linked you to. It's by pinnicale (avid), so it works pretty well.

But then again, pretty much any capture card is the same thing and will probably produce the same results.

Try Downloading updated drivers from the manufactures website for the card you have.
