Now I know everybody is different which made me wonder what everyone thinks you should do when editing a video and what is a definate no no.

Here's my opinions...

DO
- 16:9 Aspect Ratio, I think it always makes the footage look neater but don't crop bits off.
- Fade, especially with titles and new locations, don't just randomly jump from one bit to another, obviously there are times when there is an exception but yeah..
- Use a little music, turned down slightly usually accompanies well.

DONT
- Cheesy Effects (Prime example is Windows Movie Maker)
- Default Writing styles (Except the normal looking ones, ie. dont use defauly glowy titles)
- Too much music, now im a bit of a hypocrite here as I always use music but im trying not too as I find it takes your attention away from the content of the video.
- Pixelation to obscure, I think it looks terrible (even though I done it myself a few times) but from now on im always going to blur things instead.
- Zoom with editing, unless you have a good enough quality footage it just makes it look distorted and horrible.

Anyway I'd like to know what your do's and don'ts are, no doubt they will all be different to everyone elses and people will disagree, but thats the point. lol

depends what your editing, and what your editing style is. id say the DOs in your list are DONT DOs in some cases.

I hate when people,
-speed up footage
-use default text

-star wipe
-overuse of effects or transitions
