If you're talking in terms of technology, then yes, the Dreamcast was "superior". It had more hardware dedicated to sound and graphics processing than the PlayStation had in its whole system.

But you cannot look at the three consoles and say that DC was better than it's competitors. I doubt you can even blame it on advertising and all, since Sega were an established name with arcade games and handhelds and
It actually was and you just said it was. The reason Sega didn't do well is because they couldn't afford the PR Sony could as result of there previous close calls to bankruptcy (they might have gone bankrupt actually but they were really close).

Sony was basically new in the video games market, yet right from the start they fucking dominated.
But they were already an established "quality" brand name. They made quality computers, palm pilots, ect... they had the cash to get there name every where in every tv show, have mad contests and finance the large library of games the PS sports.

DC had a few good games but not enough. It had one game worth playing online, which was its big advantage over PS and N64 and it never capitalised on it. DC was never a superior console, except if you count that they made it out of better plastic than the others. But it don't matter how powerful your console is, if it sells like crap and gets no games to attract buyers, then by proxy, the console is crap.
I don't know if you were informed on Sega's financial situation when releasing the DC but it was a desperation attempt in regaining a place in the video game market as a console force.
You are right that PS and N64 could finance more games and eventually did better because they could afford to saturate the market with there names and logos.
All I'm saying was DC was a superior system, which you just agreed with me on in the start of your paragraph. Superior parts make a superior console, they couldn't afford to keep putting games out for a console that was selling poorly. All the experts say it was due to PR I was too young to have an opinion on it myself as I never owned a Dreamcast at the time but did own a Play Station and an N64. When I got older and the systems got cheaper I bought a DC and was totally blown away it didn't do better than the almost obsolete PS and N64 consoles.
They also did better due to price, Dreamcasts were like 300 bucks over here while the other two systems were 100.
All I'm saying is DC pwnd, it did but over the course of console history it was overshadowed by it's better selling competition.
MONEY!
Edit: SEGA was bankrupt and was bought by Sammy.
