On Feburary 13th 2008 we went to the Rock Band Tourney at Virgin megastore in Hollywood CA...and wow...that whole thing was a clusterfuck
They didn't have all the songs unlocked, luckily, someone knew the unlock all songs code.
Second, the drums were very out out sync, whereas our drummer, who can easily 100% most songs on hard...however on easy he got a 56%, half the other bands failed because of the drummer lag. Was rather annoying.
One band found out how to adapt to the lag, and they won, good for them, bad for everyone else.
Since they figured out the lag, they were very vocal anytime an official asked if the lag was really that bad. Officials would ask if anyone had a problem with the lag and they would yell, drums are fine! It is what it is! Since it gave them a major advantage.
Then they got the scoring mixed up half the time, first announcing a tie for third, which was later reviled to be a tie for second.
A group showed up without a singer and asked me to fill in, so while our main band got two 100%'s on vocal and guitar, that only got us 5th due to the drummer, but the group I filled in for came in at 3rd.
Would have been a wonderful experience if they drums were configured, and I normally wouldn't care, but with a potential 500 dollars on the line, would have been nice for them to make sure lag and all the others problems were taken care of.
They also scored by the average of each instruments percentage. So we didn't get screwed over in that aspect.
All in all I felt that it was a very unorganized deal but could have been good if competent people ran the thing.
1st Prize was 500 dollar gift certificate
2nd got a copy of rock band
3rd got a sprint prize pack that had all the stuff they would normally give employees on their first day of work.
They also only allowed 3 member bands, which sucked for our other main band member.
