Colouring Up Night Footage

I've got a fair amount of night footage where you can't make out the detail too well. I've brought the contrast and brightness up a bit but this washes out any colour thats there, putting a opacity layer over the footage looks too strong, anything else I could do?

use levels instead of brightness and contrast?
