That's fear you moron. Fear that it will fuck up your life (or end your life)--fear that it will send you broke. It doesn't mean you're a "wimp" if you don't do drugs, geez, don't be such a fucking dumbass. It means you've consciously considered the outcomes and have decided the negatives out-weigh the positives--potential negative consequences are always based on fear (no shit sherlock).


Fear that it will compromise your integrity--in your own eyes and in the eyes of others.

You can try to rationalize it however you like, but I can rationalize it perfectly fine from my point of view as well. Drugs are a risk. People don't take risks because of fear. Taking the risk means overcoming (or simply ignoring or forgetting--like peer pressure) whatever pre-existing fear you have (fear of the negative consequences). If drugs didn't have negative consequences, they wouldn't be a risk to begin with.

Now tell me, how is that so hard to understand? Disregarding skipper, because I already knew he'd be too damn stupid to understand...but c'mon, Ray and Tom, you both are pretty intelligent. I'm sick of spoon-feeding the answers to people here. Figure that shit out for yourselves in the future plz.

I understand exactly what you meant. I just don't think you/anyone else that does drugs are right. And, it has nothing to do with how I look to other people, it's how they look to me.

People don't take risks for reasons other than fear. For instance, I could take a risk in jumping out of a building and hoping to land properly. It's not because I'm scared of jumping that I don't but that the actual idea itself is just really stupid and doesn't warrant my considering it.

I genuinely feel that the idea of drugs is so stupid that I chose not to. It's not because I'm scared of taking drugs because to be honest the concept of the trips and stuff really does appeal to me but it's my rationalisation of the health risks etc that make me feel the idea is stupid, not that I'm scared of taking the drugs.

I occasionally do drugs. I don't agree that people who refuse to do so out of fear, I understand its not for everyone. But then again I resent the implication that drugs fuck you up. I've been smoking weed since I was 15, done cocaine, extacy and speed (although none regularly). I'm at the best Uni in the country for my course at the moment achieving good grades. Obviously I'm a fuck-up and society needs to exterminate me. One guy I know is just about to graduate near enough at the top of his class and already has numerous employment offers, and he sold coke out of his Uni house all the time he was here.

Weekdays - I usually ride bikes (road or muontain) before or after work, and I play guitar and write songs and shit most nights..

Weekends- soemtimes have bike races, so that sends me all over the country, and I throw/goto parties, goto gigs or go clubbing.

I drink a shitload, but I'm still super fit, especially during my on season. I occasionally do drugs (weed, pills and speed) and I tend to go a little nuts.

Yeah, to follow up on what Sam said, I don't avoid drugs because I am afraid of the drugs themselves. Or of the trips and all of that bullshit. I don't do drugs because I have an image to uphold in my community and I would jeopardize my entire future and everything I want to accomplish if I get caught. It's not a fear of the drug. It's the fear of jeopardizing everything I want to be because of something stupid like getting a temporary sensation. F that noise, I have responsibilities and people that depend too much on me to let not only myself down, but them too.

The fact is, the majority of the adults that are successful and truly make a difference in peoples' lives probably did do drugs at one time in their youth. But, they grow up and realize they have too much going for them to destroy it with drugs and the stigmatization that goes with them. End of.

O.K. I don't care if you agree or not, but if someone refused drugs on the basis that they are 'stupid' I would ask why. Let's look at some of the most likely answers (that would occur in around 99% of cases, like I said):
-health problems
-financial problems
-possibility of contamination or overdose
-possibility of addiction (see financial problems)
-fear of losing control
-fear of altering your conscious thought. In other words "I just want to feel normal".
-fear of the unknown. In other words "I don't know what it will do to me".

I really can't see how you can disagree with what I've said. But then again, I never expect people to agree with me around here.

there are people who work full time jobs, become proffesional atheletes, can maintain relationships (both proffesional and personal).

Like shit, take my family for example. My sister did a shitload of drugs, fucked out, tried to quit, killed her liver and eventually O'd and became a vegetable (like literally no memory, motor skills, and basic awareness)

I however did a shitload of drugs when I was younger, but I work 2 jobs, run my own business, coach a team full of kids for one of the most high class Private schools in Sydney and represent my country in my chosen sport. I'm not successful yet, but like, I can really see myself being able to say I am a success in the next 5-10 years.

That's 2 crazy extreme's within one family.. although I guess it's possible one infuenced the other, but meh.. as I said before I occasionally still take drugs (when it's off-season and there's no blood testing).

You raise a good point Ray, most people who do drugs on a regular basis are 'fearful' of the stigmatization that comes with it (that's why they go to such lengths to hide it) and a lot of the people who refuse drugs based on this stigmatization are justified in doing so.
