Can someone here who is a HD expert make a thread that details everything one needs to know about the format? In other words, how to record, edit and watch it to its fullest potential?
It should be pinned too, considering it's the future of homemade films and all (and thus, the future of homegrown)..and it's damn confusing to us ignorant folk. Would probably prevent a lot of unnecessary threads being made too.

To view HD in full potential, you will need an HD TV/Monitor.

HDV format is basiclly MPEG2 format, recored to a mini-dv tape. The HDV format is becoming more popular due to the prices of consumer HDV camcorders being below that of prosumer 3-CCD cameras, when at the same time offering matched or better picture quality. Consumer HDV cameras are ussally smaller and lighter then that of 3-CCD camcorders aswell. HDV footage records on to 1 CMOS chip insteed of 3-CCD's. For most editing programs HDV footage can be captured just as easy as SD (standerd definition) footage and editing just as easy to (but there have been some reported problems taking screen caps, due to the high quality the footage will load slower and thus making a fuzzy picture). Footage shot in HD can be captuerd through and HDMI cable, I-link cable, and for some standerd firewire. HDMI is soppost to lead to better quality but I capture through firewire and it does not drop quality at all, for me. When editing HDV footage you can also down sample your footage so it is in an SD format for youtube and other video upload sites (that do not exept videos in the HDV format). But some people will edit there progect and export back on to a tape (on cameras that will allow it) and use youtube "quick captur" function to get it on youtube in higher quality. HDV cameras are also more easy to get your hands on as they are sold at almost every electronics store, insteed of haveing to go to a camera shop or order online. The only downfall is the cost of the tapes are far more expansivve then regualr mini-dv tapes (but you can recored to regular mini-dv, I am not sure what diffrance it makes). Also in most cases 3-ccd cameras wil have more "pro like" featuers, as in mic jacks and such.
I know its not much about the HDV format itself but for the most part it just like mini-dv but better quality, because most computers and TV's now a days are adapting to sopporting the HD format.

How would one get the best quality out of a hd cam if they are recording on a hdv tape but capturing in dv to upload them their none hdv pc....?
