I'm finishing school in two weeks, so I'm gonna have way too much time on my hands and I need flicks to rent/buy/download/steal/whatever. I'm all out of ideas at the moment. Seen everything I've wanted to see.

Your challenge: find me something aesthetically pleasing. Something with cinematography that makes you weak in the knees so to speak. All genres accepted...pretentious art-house films are O.K. just don't go too overboard. The lower the budgets the better. Inspire me.

I'm hoping this might generate some good convo amongst people who claim to be serious about film making as well. So get posting Image file not present in the recovered backup

Seen most of them accept Harsh Times, Brick and Knocked Up but I'll definitely check anything out at this point, so thanks!

And you're right, the ones I have seen there are brilliant, so I know I can trust your opinion :)

Knocked Up, brilliantly written comedy. If your in the funny mood Knocked up, if your in that deep want to see some bad ass characters develop and kick ass, Brick and Harsh Times.

Just to be fair, I'll list a few that fit my previous description so others may watch if they want. Gotta share the love.

Jindabyne- Aussie film about a group of fisherman who find a dead body in a river. Must see.

Rosetta- French/Belgium arty flick, deals with issues of poverty and one girl's attempts to escape it at all costs.

Amants du Pont-Neuf- mentioned this in another thread. Breathtaking is all I'm gonna say.

Betty Blue- Another french flick. Lots of sex. Nuff said.

Creepers- old sorta horror. Some say it's average but I don't know...there's just something about this that has a great feel. Can't put my finger on it. Soundtrack is great too.

Ellie Parker- called 'indie comedy' by some. I call it a great watch. Stars Naomi Watts (who is sexy and awesome)

Festen (sometimes called 'the celebration')- Danish movie I watched for a uni class once. minimalistic/low budget cinema at it's finest.

Can't think of any off the top of my head that you guys probably wouldn't have watched. For now, enjoy

here's the best 3 movies on my list right now (ones that aren't mainstream, to say the least)

manic - joseph gordon levitt does an amazing job in this movie, it's about a guy who can't control his anger, so they throw him in an institute after he brutally assaults a kid.

a guide to recognizing your saints - shia labeoufs best work (almost tied with transformers) it's about him growing up in new york and all his friends end up dead or on drugs/in jail and he thinks his fate is different than theirs because of some so-called saints in his life.

half nelson - ryan goslings best work, it's about a teacher who befriends a student after she catches him doing cocaine.

Thanks to everyone who has made suggestions I'll be taking everything on board and so should anyone else reading this thread. It's not just for me but for everyone really.

btw, I've been hanging to watch switchblade romance for some time now...the foreign film section at my local video ezy is sub-par at best (can't go to blockbuster cos' we owe them too much money--my brother lost an x-box game!). An on-line download is going to be my most likely option.

Word, anything by Larry Clark.

Also, watch Irreversible. You will not be disappointed.
edit: just read the thread, got beaten to it.

Fucking

A New Hope

Empire Strikes Back

Return of The Jedi

Princess Leah: I love you Han

Han Solo, Smuggler: I know.

Pimpest love scene ever featuring a space ninja. The concept it old west movies, mid evil sword fighting, and space. With mystic powers.

So good.
