Editing Hdv

What kind of stuff do you need for editing HD video? Can you transfer HD with firewire without any quality loss? Or do you need a videocard with hdmi input? What programs can handle HD without clitches? To what media do you export without any quality loss?

ulead 11, vegas 8 and other will sopport HDV. I think you might lose quality with a firewire, U need an HDMI cable. export as a WMVHD is what my friend does.

How is the performance with the programs you´ve mentioned? I´ve read that many programs still have clitches?

Doesnt premiere 2.0 have hdv support? I think/hope it does because luead and pinncale have allways sucked when it comes exporting.

How much for hdmi cable and capture card?

and what media do you transport that wmvhd?

ulead has always been good, I have never used vegas. I think premeir does have that, my friend has it so I will confirm it tommorrow. I saw HDMI cables on ebay for like $7.

Thought so. Which prog does he use? How has he liked it? Any problems? Due updates, there seems to be less and less problems with dealing with hd.

You still need to get a new video card, not just the hdmi cable. Those cards go from hundred euros up.

or - buy a gun with the money you were saving for a camera (or sell the vx)

step 2 - flash it around to get your way

step 3 - make a thread about shooting someone

You don't need an HDMI cable to capture HDV footage. The guy at the Sony store told me that you only need firewire. Yes, Premiere Por does support HDV.

Ah, I believe so too. But good to know that you can do it with firewire as well.

I cant capture HDV with my firewire. we tried with louzy's HD sony

On other note, Boner Jones from Boredom Induced stated that editing HDV needs "super" computer.

yeah no worrys dan and mono both said you couldnt do it so I tried it as I also heard you could but to no luck.

You can capture HDV with a firewire.

All the top editing programs support HDV e.g. Final cut or Avid (which are the only two you should bother using).

Although the new canon HDV camera requires final cut 6 (new one) to import the footage.

You do need a card and what not if your dealing with anything above HDV, for example true High Definition.

EDIT:
Oh yeh just read the thread properly now. If you do want to capture/edit HDV footage you need a half decent computer, preferably a mac.

new canon as in the HV20? and FC6...isnt that just for MAC...so basicly we'd need a mac aswell?

Isnt hv20 is newer than XL H1. But its also in whole other range of cameras, it pretty much pro camera isnt it? But damn would I love one of those, just costs twice as much as hv20.

It costs about 8 times the amount.

The XL H1 is the best HDV camera money can buy at the moment.

And yes the hv20 is newer but obviously its not as good, its more aimed at the general public for filming. WHereas XL H1 is as pro as you can get before going into Digi beta/HD or film etc.
