Which cam should I buy??
Both seem very even, different sites say different things, here's some reviews:

These cam's seem to be the top in my price range..... I'm really gonna go with which ever has the most votes, so thanks.

Howbout vx2100?
To be honest... dunno,. I just like to think that Sony is good brand with reliable products. I usually go with sony, just from brand loyality.
EDIT: was gl2 out of range too? I´ve seen it doing amazing things in lowlight.

If you can afford a GL2 get it. Amazing price for what it can do.

Yeah, I checked the GL2, or the XL2, whatever it is in the UK.... there a little to much.
Plus, I'm gonna be filming around here, I wanna do stuff on my own to and I don't fancy having a cam that big you see, haha.
I've found a few sites where I'll be paying £600 max, for the panasonic, less for the sony elsewhere, but I guess if I can find a GL2 for £600, maybe £700, I'll get it.
Edit; I'm almost certain I made a poll for this. :S

xl2 and gl2 is whole different cameras. you could get xl2 for 800£, if you are allready ready to spend 700$, I say you should consider going semi pro with that extra hundred.

I see, just making sure.... as that Panasonic over here is a NV-gs500, not PV.
Regardless, I should only be spending £500, which is about $800 - $900 anyways.
I just don't really want a cam that size, dont fancy walking around with it, my old cam fitted nicely in my hoody pocket.

Yeah europe models are bit different in some cases. I also wanted small cam, for cheap so I bought another model from the HC series year ago. And the sony you are looking at should perform well on low light with that huge chip. So I would say that sony is good buy. But Haven paid any attention to the panasonic we are speaking about.
You´ve checked that both cams have all plug ins you want? In and out firewire, perhaps anlog in?

Yeah, I had a quick look, seem to be about the same.
They both have the basics, the HC seems to have the same as my older one.
All I need is a firewire to up, and to send back to DV in some cases, the thing for the TV (with the 3 colour wires for the TV)... I think thats analog right?
The HC seems to be like at LEAST £100 cheaper everywhere too, heh... what would you pick if you wanted the best video quality... with good low light capability?? :S

Not at all, smaller chips. It's definitely good, but not better than the VX's.

well the colour looks better on the GL2. and the quality looks the same so I geuss GL2 does win.

Maybe on auto the color looks better, but if you fuck with the settings, either can be better.

Personally I'd go for a used sony minidv cam, just because you wont be scared to bring it anywhere if it was cheap, and lately sony hasn't really been impressing me much.

you want a straight up answer: sony
considering everything from specs/function/price it's the best bet. Here in Australia, there's a massive difference on price between the two; the GS500 is about $600 more from most stores.
I'll definitely be going the HC96 or the JVC GX5 for my cam, havn't decided which, probably the one I can get the cheapest. I'm not really that fussed over it

I'm actually going for the Panasonic, def. now.
Read tons of reviews, all seems to prefer the video quality over Sony's, and the low light, especaially when configuring it manually.
Plus, it seems to have alot less "noise" in low light, than the SONY which was pretty much the only problem with my older one in low light.
Has all the basic stuff I need, ordering it as soon as I can find a good deal.
Any last thoughts?? Haha.

Trust me man, I'd buy the GS500 if I could afford it. If you've got the cash at your disposal then go for it.

Course I have the cash... hence why I made this thread to help decide between the two, haha.
Regardless... ordering soon, need to verify my paypal account though, so I can send more than £400.
