High Definition Cameras

I'm sure a few people here use these, so it is actually worth getting one or should I just stick to regular defintion that most dv cameras offer and perhaps go for something a bit better than what I've got now?

The camera I have doesn't perform very well under low light (need something that has that 'green light' effect) and even out door picture quality isn't that good alot of the time I've noticed and I want something alot sharper and clearer.

What pixel quality would you people also recommend?

If you're not showing it in HD then there's no point in getting a HD

Price range of around $400-$700 U.S. How much I spend really depends on what it can do and the type of deal I can get. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm such a noob when it comes to cams. The one I currently have is a panasonic nv-ds60 and I'm just not happy with it; especially with darker interior shots alot of the time. A camera thats fisheye friendly would also be a bonus. HD isn't exactly a necessity if the quality is high through normal definition.


I figure that many people today have HD televisions, so yeah, I guess I intend to show footage in that format if people have the technology available to them - but if the quality isn't much better then I'm not going to bother with it. Just wanna know if it's worth it basically.

How are you going to get them the footage on HD?

I assume that if it's shot on a HD camera it will come up that way on dvd for those who have HD televisions but not those who have regular ones? I dunno, I'm still not entirely sure how it all works.

DVD's are Standard Definition. To view HD you need a HD DVD player or Bluray (or watch on a HD TV Channel)

Ah, I see now. It's all a bit complicated for me half the sites I looked up just wouldn't get to the damn point and tell me what I wanted to know. HD just sounds like a big fuss for no reason now that I think about it.

In terms of actual pixel quality/specifications, what should I be looking for? I just can't stand bad looking footage (I'm sure no one likes it actually) and I want to get things up to a better standard. Like everyone else here I'm just looking for the best quality I can get for my price range.

I'm doing my research early cos' I won't be getting this cam for another couple of months and I don't want to get stuck with one I don't like (again, lol).

just get a vx2100 or vx2000. HD is pointless for hg shit.

I've read good reviews about those two models, might be a tad pricey for me though, but I'm definitely in the market for something similar.

I'm so sick of this crappy handy cam that comes out slo-mo in night vision and shit, there's nothing worst (yes, I just had to have another bitch about my current cam, thats how much I detest it).

well, for the price of an hd cam you may as well get a vx.

Well what kind of cam do you have now?? because Sony Handycams have amazing Nightshot. Though I hate night shot videos cuz they still come out looking like shit.

pretty much any camera with 3ccd quality is a good cam in my opinion. but basicly vx2100 is what I picture as being the best.

Thanks for all the input everyone else has put in as well, need all the info I can get at the moment. Went to a few stores ealier to look at prices and none of them stock the vx, need to go a proper camera store I think intead of just department stores though lol

I asked around and I think I'll be aiming for something between 3-4 megapixels in quality as well.

dude you can get a $199.00 digital camera with 6.0 megapixels man. any digital camera takes video with sound, you might think about taking that kind of route. bestbuy.com has the cams I'm talking about.

I was just basing that around what I saw today. One decent panasonic cam around $1000 Aus that was a bit higher than 4 megapixels and that was the highest they had in the store actually. And any 3ccd does look like a likely option now that I've looked around some better sites, cheers for the advice.

btw, do you happen to know anything about lux rates and nightvision? Would a rating of 1 do or would 0 be better?

Alright I've basically come to the conclusion that I want either of these two cameras or something very similiar in terms of brand/price/specifics;
Sony DCR-HC96
Panasonic GS300
Neither of them are HD but they look like they can do the job I'm looking for. For reference purposes, $1000 Aus is about $700 U.S.

Dont look at how good the nightvision is coz in my opinion it looks pretty shit most of the time anyway,
Instead get a big battery and one of those clip on lights!!! then you can use that instead

Need a new cam for xmas you see, and thats as far as I've got when recommended 3CCD cams, haha.

Regardless, I had a Sony DCR-TRV22E, 1CCD, and I know the quality was sweet.
I used to think the low light sucked, then I saw what it looked like on my friends camera ages ago, similar price range, was a JVC, and it pissed all over it, the Sony did that is.

So yeah, I'm reckoning it's twice as better as that, and I was happy with it anyways, when I read about the HC96, it says about the LCD screen, and the manual shit.... same stuff about the TRV22e, and it was fine too me.

Yeah JVC is apparantly nortorius for bad interior shots. I think I'll probably be going the sony as well, looks like a decent cam and I would like to try out a different brand this time.

Yeah, all im saying is that I thought my Trv22e was worth the cash at the time, so I figure the HC96 is, considering its the same price as the TRV (at the time I bought it) so prolly a deal for me.

I'd rather have a different camera though, I mean, alot different you know.... I also remember Weak or Duran saying something about it, either Duran has it or Weak said it's bad in lowlight, or the other way round.
