I just noticed alittle while ago when we went to go film, I turn the camera on and in the "record" mode it just is a black screen. I can play back videos but can't record or take pictures. It's even in the Viewfinder also. What can I do? I tried everything. Messing with settings, Reset the whole thing. I dunno what else to do!
I have a Sony MiniDV DCR-HC40. I was trying to look up some other info to see if this has happened to anyone else but can't find anything. If anyone can help, I would really appriciate it. Thanks!

My cameras screen doesn't show anything but black. I can see what I want when I look through the actual camera, but I cant use the screen.
The touch screen still works though. =z So I can change the menu by remembering where everything is, but I cant watch videos when recording OR playing back.

that would be why I bought a warrenty man. But I would probably try and send it in to get fixed.

Fixing it might cost more than a used one on ebay, so see how much it'd cost first.

I called sony and they said it will cost about $211 to fix.
Sucks. Image file not present in the recovered backup

Anyone have an idea on how to fix this piece?

no idea man, the problem with camcorders is that it is often more practical to just buy a new cam instead of getting your old one fixed. Sucks, I know.
My current cam is fucked as well...for some reason it refuses to turn off and the only way to get it to do so is to remove the battery. That, and it's battery life has almost halved since I first bought it (dunno why)...these two factors make filming public shit very hard when we're out on the town. This makes me very depressed, that's why I'm getting a new cam soon.
