Video Editing?

I am looking for a new, good editing program...any sugestions?

Use WMM. You can make desent shit if you are l33t enough.

Don't wanna toot my own horn or anything...

I suggest sony vegas if you don't feel like having to spend a long time learning.

Yeah vegas is a pretty good choice

I'd suggest Adobe Premiere, but I know a lot of people would tell you that it's hard to figure out. Personally, I was able to pick up the basics quite easily. Books are good to help.... so is google.

WMM: easiest.
Pinnacle: easier, kinda stupid.
Vegas: easy to learn, better once you get it.
Adobe: kinda challenging, once you get the basics, its fine.

Vegas, never tried Premiere myself.

But Vegas is fairly easy to get used too, once your familiar with everything it's great and you will start to remember little tricks.... near enough everytime I use it I find out something new...

Also theres these scripts and little programs you can download... if you get tired of everything else.

pinnacle is kickass and very underrated.

That lady that pops up in the beginning scares me, thats my reason for not liking it as much.

You should just try Premiere or Vegas, I've gotten to know Vegas in and out now and Studio just seems pointless, like theres nothing much too it now. :S

Studio just used to stick and stall for me anyways, just for simple things.... and I had all the right system req. so I just moved to Vegas.

pinnacle is great if you don't want SHIT for options.

Vegas is where it's at. It can't do EVERYTHING, but it comes damn close and is very user friendly.

WMM is a fucking abomination. get off it.

pinnicle runs great for me.

everything iv wanted to do, pinnicle can do it, iv got all the add on's and extras I needed,

im not one of them editors to cover the footage in loads of effects to keep the visal entertaining.

the way I shoot footage is pretty much how I want it too look on video, I use pin's colour corection methods and other effects for fine tuning.

drop me a list of what prem & vegas can do that would want to make me and anyone else use them progs from now on....must be something awesome,

Way too much to name, you can get these scripts.... theres one for everything you can think of, but I've never gotten round to using any.

If I had to pick a few things err:

- Multiple audio and video tracks.
- Cookie Cutter - this thing is pretty awesome, you can basically cut away bits of the video, blend it in with another bit, add shapes, borders and.... em, cant explain it well enough but when you put your mind to it you can do a TON of things with the video.
- MUCH smoother slow mo.
- Audio editing, if you ever need to do anything with the pitch, volume and other stuff... Vegas came from an audio editor so it's not just some basic lil' thing.
- Doesn't take up as much disk space.

Theres just tons of little things which you'll pick up when editing too, Studio was sluggish on my computer, if I got lucky and it was running just about ok.... if the video got complexed it went SLOW as fuck, Vegas is nice and stable... but if Studio is running good for you then thats ace, as I could never do anything without worrying about if it would crash...

its not the editing system its the editor our latest vid was done with windows movie maker in a hurry and people seamed to like that video

Yeah but, when it comes down to it, it's so basic.... with more options you just think of more ideas.

There wasn't much too your video, except for the actual footage... DX and stuff, it already looked cool... synced with the audio... thats all I used too do but I'm learning new ideas and techniques.

I was thinking of going onto vegas before I installed it and I dont understand it and I know vodes been having alot of trouble learning it and hes sick with pinnicle aswell so no idea I may re-try it again for the HS/BMX DVD

Meh, I dunno...... if Studio is running good for you then ace, only reason I tried Vegas was because of it sticking and crashing all the time, mine had alot of bugs too.

well I do hate the slow-mo tbh and in skate videos if a tricks insane its between normal & slo-mo speed so that would be one reason to try it out, even if I just export the clips into that then back to pinnicle for the final video.

also in pin you cant have different frame rates, and id be working with NTSC,PAL & DIGI video camera footage, and when you cant mix it, it takes so long to save back to tape in WMM2 and then recapture so its PAL again.

Yeah, whats also cool for slow mo/fast is that you can add a video envelope, then event velocity.... and then you add these points on this bar..... with that you can make it SOOO smooth, it's ace.

And cant you import video which has a different frame rate.... I think it lets you do it.... but it says it might fuck up or something?? haha.

Anyways...

Anyone using Adobe premiere pro? (I got 1.5) and I need to put text over some footage but I dont really know how, can anyone help me with that? thanks a bunch! and later im gonna need to know how to make dvd menus or at least just a play section and maybe some chapters if theres anybody who understands the program and those functions and could bother to help me out!

Go to file>new>title, type whatever you want to put and save it (file>save) then just drag it above the clip you want to add it to. Voila! If you want to fade in and out, just expand the track it's on and add keyframes. I don't know how to explain it since I don't have it on thsi computer, but keyframes aren't hard.

premiere pro can do anything you want and tons more.
minus 3d and cgi kinda shit but after effects is super compatible with it.
