Windows Vista

I just wanted to tell everyone that Windows Vista RC1 (Release Candidate 1) is available for free download at microsoft. Vista is the successor of Windows XP.

You need an e-mail address, a passport (windows live) registration, and you can receive a free product key,
and a download link.

The download is 3 gigabytes, shouldn't take more than a night on a modern DSL or Cable connection.

This is a beta version of Vista, so it contains bugs, but others say it is pretty usable.

This beta will expire on 1 June, 2007. If you upgrade XP, you can't downgrade then, you'll have to reinstall the computer. I will install it on a separate Hard Drive/partition to eliminate that problem.

So, you can receive and use Windows Vista RC1 free for 8 months if you want it.

The customer preview program is limited in time, so if you want it, act quick, the program will close when enough people registered.

This is not for the faint hearted, so don't blame me if you f*ck up your computer with it.

I tried Beta2 but it slowed the fuck down my laptop so I probably wont be downloading this.

I was gonna get this, but I dunno, I'd rather just have the full version, so I'll wait for that.

I need to download XP SP2 though, do you have to format your comp before you install it though? that ain't a problem but I could use some help before I download it. Any help?

As this SP1 I have expires on Oct 10, well, no more updates or anything, so yeah, should I format, then install?

XP SP2 is just a service pack for XP. It can be installed on top of plain XP, or XP SP1. So, there is no need to format, it is just an upgrade. The XP SP2 install takes up to 1-2 hours, and there are times when it looks like it is frozen (saying cleaning up), but it works in the background, and continue in due time. So wait until it says it is finished.

And if you use a pirated copy of XP, you can get into trouble with XP SP2, as it has additional checks for that.

Probably stick with XP until I get my new desktop next summer, then get Vista on that. Yummy.

Ah ok, I just remember reading other things.

I recently formatted my comp so it's not too bad, but it doesn't come with an update as it says it should, so I have to download from Microsoft manually, shouldn't be too bad.
