The SH DVD is officially available (in the US, anyway), not sure of the exact release date, but it came out way sooner than I anticipated. I'm going to be getting it because I am a complete Silent Hill nut. I honestly felt that you had to have played the game and enjoyed it to really appreciate the movie. It shined some light on some gray areas for me, that's for sure, but left me confused in others. Not sure if the Soundtrack for the movie will be put out, but I managed to get a DL of the tracks from demonoid.com. Thoughts?

I bought this last night, it's so killer with my surround sound.

even if you didn't play the series, you should be able to understand it after a second run through, the symbolism is excellent. wish it had more extra features.

I don't really put it in the same category as the other game movies... I definitely wouldn't call it crap. They actually tried with this one. I find myself curious about the Bloodrayne movie, but I think I can tell that will be crap.

I like the story line and how they put the movie together but I didn't find it scary.

it's not scary, it's just creepy. scary is making you scream, creepy is that uneasy feeling you get when you walk down a dark alley.

No I wasn't impressed. I got like the whole thing about the two different kids being her bad and good or whatever, I just didn't get it when they want back in the house at the end. Like were they part of the world again or what cause the dad didn't see them?

Noone got it, it was really fucking confusing, I think it was a kind of limbo or some shite, I can't believe that you aren't complaining about Bean's horrific accent, that eclipsed all of the confusion for me.

the movie was based solely on symbolism, mainly people who played the game series understood it more, however it came to show that many people who never even played the game understood it all.

here's something someone wrote when it released:

QUOTE
Having never played the games I found it unbelievable that I understood this movie so much more than those who have played them. Spoilers ahead but not major ones.

This movie is more brilliant than people are noticing, and has a lot more religious influence than you may think. Aside from all the quotes, crosses, and churches you see in the movie there is symbolism through out this whollle movie right down to everyone's names.

First and foremost, this movie is about heaven and hell, but is mainly themed around the relationship of mother and child, and constantly references the madonna, the virgin mary. Even the names of the main characters, Rose and Sharon,..."Rose of Sharon" is another name for the madonna. Cybill, bringer of truth. Christabella beautiful chirst and so much more. It also weighs heavy on the number three as a reference to the trinity.

There are three ghosts of Alessa the demon responsible for silent hill. The father, son, and holy ghost. They all represent a part of Alessa, but are seperate.

Then there are the three dimmensions which reference Heaven, Purgatory and Hell. The real world is the world where Christopher Dasilva is in. To me this world represents heaven. It is the world that Rose, Sharon and Cybill leave behind to go onto their personal journeys. Then there is the gray world. The neutral world between black and white. The area where sould wait to be judged. This is what I interpreted as Purgatory. Finally there is the dark world. Hell. The area where nothing but truth is revealed. (all the monsters in silent hill were once real people who were residents of silent hill but have been difigured to show their true selves.

Only truth is revealed in Silent Hill which Pyramid Head, one of the monsters in this movie, A pyramid has three sides, another reference to the trinity, reveals truth, sometimes more literal that figurative. for instance the scene where he strips anna of her wickedness (those who have seen the movie know what I'm talking about) then there are all the barb wires (crown of thorns anyone?) I could go on forever about everything in this movie.

I just can't believe people are sooo blind to how brilliant this movie really is. It was beautifully shot and the ending, wow. I understood the ending. let's if you do. It's shakespeare. It's open to many different interpretations, and may mean something different to each and everyone. but there is no wrong answer about silent hill. it is a place where truth is revealed.

I dunno what that person wrote seemed a bit like they were picking up the symbols themselves in the way they saw it. Three sides of a pyramid being a reference to the trinity? That's completely interpreted through the own person's thoughts rather than it being an intended thing.

could be, but it makes a bit of sense either way.

as for the end, she did however die in the car accident. that was why when they were able to leave she was still in the gray fog world. not to mention alessa conjoined with her evil side. she was already dead.
