I'm gonna ask about that stuff cause I have never heard about that, when you broke down the order in which the body burns shit that made sense about the atrophy but I'm still adament that being more built will not help you to burn fat quicker, fat burning etc is to do with how much the muscles have to work, if you are less built surely the muscles will have to work harder to produce the same ammount of energy released and therefore being less built will lead to using more calories to do the same tasks a more muscular person would do. Also I know that being more muscular will lead you to become heavier which then will work the body harder but still a fat person that weighs 16 stone will have to do more work to get the same levels out of their body than a muscular person of the same weight would do. I really don't see any logic in what you're saying but like I said I'll ask about it, being the civil open minded person I am.

I'm gonna go ahead and refer you to a link that I saw on google today, in my daily "how to" link section:
http://www.wikihow.com/Get-Six-Pack-AbsOn this page, you will find that these health experts tell you (under the Lose Fat Section) that
QUOTE
Lift Weights. The more muscle your body has, the more calories your body burns, even at rest. Many people are afraid of getting huge due to weight lifting. This is meaningless. You will NOT gain a lot of mass if you're not taking in a lot of calories as well. Also keep in mind that most of the huge people you see on TV or in print achieve that state by going on high protein and high carb diets. They increase their caloric intake specifically to bulk up. So the fear of bulking up should NOT be a reason to not lift weights. As a rule of thumb, the larger the muscle the more energy it will burn to sustain itself. Therefore the most effective muscle groups to work for fat loss are large muscle groups: thighs and hamstrings, the back, and the chest. You can also lift your body weight without going to a gym, through pushups, situps, chinups, etc.
You can also check out MY health articles at
http://www.eznom.net/s4/descend2flamesthe series isn't all on the site yet, but I have most of it written, and have little left to write. You can run the whole article past your trainer if you want - it has some really good insights into why the body works the way it does when it comes to metabolism and weight loss - and I can always use a proof reader.

That's more saying the bigger your muscle is the more calories you need to put in to keep them getting big and so they have enough energy to repair. The fact that the muscles themselves are bigger doesn't mean that the person will burn more calories but it will take more calories to increase their size than that of a smaller person.
That's what I get from that, yeah I'll pass on your articles for proof reading to John if you want?

I'd just like to re-iterate the main point of the paragraph:
The more muscle your body has, the more calories your body burns, even at rest.
Just having bigger muscles causes you to burn more calories, exactly as I have been saying.
That doesn't mean the muscles will sustain themselves and stay big. You're right, without adequate nutrition and exercise they will atrophy. But having them burns calories - more calories than you would burn without them, which leads to fat loss.

90 Degrees. Forarms perpendicular with the floor, head up and back straight.

thats the way I do them, but after awhile, with everyone, they get sloppy lol
21 August 2006, 00:46 UTC#104
^ yeah, whenever I take a PT test, I am told my pushups are perfect form for the first x amount, and then after that, they get really sloppy. I'm trying to work on that though - whenever I do them, I only do them until my form starts to break, then I end my reps, and rest.
21 August 2006, 01:41 UTC#105
