And by gay, he means it litterally.

You guys all don't know shit.
Gravity is caused by the molten matter under the earths surface, the heat generated causes it to have energy, thus magnetic properties.
The layer of magma under earth is slowly cooling down, thus the earths gravity field (over a long period of time) is gradually decreasing.
Believe Einstein with his "un-satisfied theories of the universe" if you want, fuck that shit...Discovery has it covered.

Yep, fo' real.
As for masses of the universe attracting each other, I believe this is due to the way the planets spin. Think about it, when something circular spins it creates a centrifugal force, the same must apply to the solar system, however on a much larger scale.

Marty, Marty (can I call you Marty? helps me get into scientist mode) you're not looking at the big picture.
Sure that works for planets and crap. But it's been proved that any two masses in the universe share a gravitational attraction. Put two rubber balls on a table and there'll be a gravitational force between them. It's not strong, so they won't move, but it's there.
You can't say that gravity comes from magma or spinning or whatever crazy white boy shit 'cause that shit just don't float.
29 June 2006, 21:00 UTC#45
I think Liam's and Gman's both are right-on. As the world turns within the solar system, there's a constant downward pressure forcing it inward. Like putting a marble in a cup and spinning it around really fast, it "sticks" to the side of the cup in a way. That mixed with the constant downward force objects with mass get from the center of the Earth, that's why on the moon there is so little gravity (Like there's no such thing as 0 gravity) because the farther from the center of the Earth you get, the weaker the force of gravity is.

If the magma was slowly colling down that would totally contradict Newton's law of motion. How many geniuses you want to contradict or try to falsify now?

Many of Newton's theories have been disproved or replaced by Einstein's.

I think what both Liam and Gman are talking about are correct, just on two different, yet related, levels. If you take those same two balls (giggle) and put them on the same surface there's an attraction there, but once you turn the surface to one side closer to the Earth's center (downwards) the balls will both fall the same way and meet at the Earth's surface because that's the closest to the center they can physically get. The attraction's always there, it's just influenced by the stronger force that cums along.

Not his law on motion. That law was also developed by Aquinas and Aristotle so I sincerely doubt any magma would be cooling down. That would be so illogical

If you heat a plate up, do you expect it to stay hot forever? Same applies to magma.
29 June 2006, 21:46 UTC#52
Yeh but that's a totally different concept! You don't heat the centre of the earth it is the heater and with global warming heating the planet I just highly doubt your whole magma arguement it's just simply illogical

No it's not. Heat is not an infinite source, the sun will eventually BURN out. Heat = energy, when there is no "energy" it is cold. Why would the magma below the earth stay molten forever? It's simply really hot earth.
Why do you think the earth is not one massive ass ball of magma? Because we now have a "crust", which goes down for miles and miles. Know what the crust is? Essentially, it's cooled down magma.
So how is my argument illogical?

Actually heat is a potential infinite. I know what the crust is yes and I'm aware it is cooled down magma but with global warming now emerging even more the earth can't possibly cool down internally.

Global warming is a theory, it may not even excist, there have been many severe temperature fluctuations in the past that have been natural, take an ice age for example
