Interesting read...

QUOTE
The giant telephone and cable companies are trying to take control of the Internet away from the public. They're asking Congress to give them the power to tell you where you can go on the Internet-and what you can do.

Another blow to low and middle class America and every small business owner and every consumer on the web.

Here is the story: Big phone companies (SBC aka ATT, Verizon) big
cable companies (e.g. Comcast) are fighting a lobby war on capital hill. They are fighting for their ?right? to charge large websites for allowing their customers to be able to access them. Imagine going to google.com and seeing that it is painfully slow. Then going to, hypothetically, ATTSearch.com and seeing it blazing fast?faster than any other search site. Where would you search?

The phone companies are spending upwards of $1million per WEEK to lobby the government. They want the authority to set-up and enforce virtual toll booths.

As consumers we already pay for Internet access. Every business and individual with a presence on the Internet already pays for Internet Access and bandwidth. And, they want to collect more.

In the Senate, Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) and Byron Dorgan (D-ND) need our support for a strong Net Neutrality bill that would prohibit broadband providers from fencing off the Internet for those who can pay the most.

All Americans need to urge our members of Congress to support Net Neutrality. Any one who cares about preserving Internet freedom should fight for it today.

I don't think people will be able to control the internet. Its too massive and people will never go for it.
