Got a new harddrive

Ok, so yesterday a new 400 gb sata HDD that I ordered from tiger direct arrived in the mail. I've already unscrewed the bays and installed it physically and all, but I can't get the computer to "see" it. I've tried right clicking my computer and going to manage, then going to disk management where the drive should show up and I can format it and assign it a name and all, but it doesn't show up in there, so I was wondering if anyone else had had this problem before and knew how to fix it? I was thinking this might have something to do with LBA since this is a large drive, but I'm not completely sure.

Oh, and I'm running Windows XP home on the computer I'm installing it on, no service packs have ever been installed on it.

once I had an old computer, and I had to upgrade the bios to put a big harddrive in it, this could be the problem but ill leave it to gman to answer.

First things first,

Make sure the hardrive shows up in your BIOS utility, if not check you've set the jumpers correctly.

If it does, this is common of Windows to not automatically add the hardrive to a mount point. Try this;

Open control panel in classic view, go to "Administrative tools > computer management > storage > Disk management (local)

You now should see 2 hardisks, your secondary disk should be identifiable by "D:", right click and go to "properties" go to the "hardware" tab, if your disk is working okay then click out of properties, right click your secondary disk and then format to NTFS.

It worked, turns out the secondary sata drive was disabled under bios. Muchos gracias, now I have plenty of space to capture the footage on tapes that have been sitting around while I've waited for a new HDD for months.
