Three guys walk into a hotel, and they're going to split the cost of a room. The room is $30. They each kick in $10 and head up to their room. The manager gets wind of it and tells the clerk the room is only $25. He hands five $1 bills to the bell hop and tells him to go refund the guys' money. On the way up to the room, the bell hop gets to thinking, as bell hops are wont to do, and says to himself, "No way they can split $5 over three guys, I'm going to help out." He stuffs $2 in his pocket, knocks on the door, gives each guy back a buck and heads back downstairs to the desk, glowing in the warmth of a job well done. So now each guy has paid $9. $9 x 3 is $27 plus the two the bell hop stole - only $29! Where is the other buck?

28 was paid by the guys, and the other 2 dollars from the 30 is in the bell hop's pocket.

wait, I messed up.
ok. they paid 30 bucks, 10 a piece.
then each got 1 dollar back, so they really paid 9 a piece.
9x3 = 27
30-27 = 2, which is what the bell hop pocketed.

ok one last go.
there were 3 10's in the cash register.
the lady took out 5 and gave it to the bell hop, so that left 25 in the cash register and 5 with the bell hop.
the bell hop kept 2 and then the other 3 went to the guys.
2 - bell hop
3 - guys
25 - cash register

OK.. Out of the 30 dollars that the bellboy had>
$25 went to the manager
$2 went to into his pocket
$3 went back to the dudes ($1 each)
That equals $30
EDIT: Agree! Kiwi edited. I saw his first post and it didnt make sense.

My bad, I was trying to go back through it bit by bit so I could break it down. I only got lost in the shuffle. I think the fact just the way we're looking at it is messing us up.
3x10=30(initial price) 30-5=25(manager price) 25+2=27 (2 the bellhop pocketed) 27+3 to the dudes=30

I say the shady ass manager gave the broke ass dudes the room for free and pocketed the money...he then began to feel like a jackass so he gave 5 of it back. but the shady bell hop pocketed 2 of it.

I dont know if anyone answered this but...
9 x 3 is 27 but that doesnt even matter be cause its really 25$ + 3$ which is 28$ bbecause you have to count the 25th dollar which they didnt in the riddle so the guy gives back a dollar to each person soo thats the 26th 27th and 28th dollar that guy then keeps the 29th and 30th... that clear??

when the hotel guy said, its only 25 he gave 5 back from the 30 so it would make 25. from the guys point of view, they c that they now only paid 27 from the room cuz the cost is at 27. the bell hop couldnt give bac kthe other 2 cuz it would make everything uneven for the guys, so he kpt 2, subtract 2 from 27.....25. 30-5-25.. understand?probably not. were not trying to find out how to make 30 from 27, were trying to fiqiure out how to make 25 our of 27..doesnt that make more sense cuz the bell hp has 2.
