I've seen people jump a good 30 feet and be uninjured. Do you get "immune" to jumps after a while? Lets say you jump 15 feet one day, and increase it by a foot every week... Would you eventually get used to it?
19 May 2006, 23:51 UTC#2
No. But you get better and your landing gets better too. But youre not inmune to stunts.
20 May 2006, 00:01 UTC#3
You don't get immune because other wise after a long while of increasing your hight you would be able to jump from the top of a block of flats, which would just kill you.
It's just the more you do stuff, the more you get used to it.
The first time you do it your shakey and nervous and likely to fuck up, once your used to it you lose the fear and are less likely to go wrong because you have some experience on how to land etc. but obviously theres still a limit on what you can jump without dying no matter how skilled you are.
But when it comes down to stunts such as piercing yourself, lightubes etc. you get used to the pain and it doesn't affect you as much, so I guess you could say you become sort of "immune" to that.
20 May 2006, 00:02 UTC#4
Everyone knows if you jump off something to high, you'll get hurt.
But someone can jump off something 2 stories high, and when someone else does... they hurt themselves, well, if your on about landing on your feet.
But all depends on the landing and the person.
It's hard to imagine many people can jump off something as high as 30foot and be alright, where other people have snapped their legs.
20 May 2006, 13:32 UTC#5
It's all in the landing, which comes with experience.
20 May 2006, 13:36 UTC#6
sam evans jumped from 30feet onto concret
20 May 2006, 13:39 UTC#7
Yes it's true. Like when you survive from getting shot in the stomache a certain amount of times, you'll eventually get immune to that too.
20 May 2006, 13:48 UTC#8
I believe it's luck. if you can do something extremely dangerous and come out unhurt. this only applies to people who have no idea what they're doing.
20 May 2006, 17:36 UTC#9
Practice and luck I think. I guess it is they way you land that determines pain or not. But as far as far as immunity goes then hell no, there will always be that one fuck up where an ankle is tweaked or a lung collapses etc...

It actually breaks down your knees after a while, so really, the more jumps you do, the worse your knees will get.

Thats what happened to me. My right knee is fucked for life. In the time I did a lot of jumps I used to skateboard as well, I think the combination wasn't really good and afterall it wasn't really worth it..
Rafael from SNF is very good at jumps, most of the time he lands perfect and rolls away nicely. His hole back is fucked up because of the impacts from jumps.
So in the long term.. jumps are very bad for your body, even if you've never broken a bone or whatever.
20 May 2006, 17:52 UTC#13
Yup, got to give up jumps really. Never had good knees, did some jumping, fucked up a big jump... that was enough for me. Nothing long term at the moment, but I want to keep it that way.

Yeah Lozerkid is pretty much permantly damaged from jumping so much

20 May 2006, 18:04 UTC#15
It's funny how jumps used to be so popular, but now nobody does them anymore. Myk would, but he has some blood in his knee or something so he can't for a while.
20 May 2006, 18:10 UTC#16
Yeah we havent filmed jumps in a while, when done right they really impress me.
One of my favourites is still Yate's from that building...with the wide angle.
20 May 2006, 18:22 UTC#17
Ohh.. damn .. bad news for Uw..since most are stunts are jumps.
My poor knees.

You havent seen it, its pretty goosh. Good 20 feet jup to a bush, on public place.... and me/jones recorded over it

Or not over it, but over The angle that shows the hight better and some public reactions. Now I have left "ok" fisheye angle from next to the bush... and no public reactions.
Anyways, I landed badly and it hurt my knees, got over it, but bad knees run in my family and I have those too so I dont know how many risks or exertion I want to put on my knees. I´d like to walk till the day I die
20 May 2006, 18:59 UTC#22
Yeah I know what you mean man VODE, if I will do more jumps it'll be belly flops or flips..
That jump from Yates was nice indeed but if there's one guy out there who motivated me to do shit it was Nick from Triple0.
Check
