thinking of buying a new comp

hey there

well summer soon and I will have a good job which in the end of the summer il have 2.500 $ (hopefully)

so I want to buy a second comp and connect two comps with eachother and then il have a beast

my system now :

intel pentium 4 3000 mhz, 256 megs of ram,gigabyte geforce 6600 256 mb and 200 gbs of hard

now what I want is to buy the best system yet with all the best parts in it for video editing, special and visual effects programs and most importantly 3d graphic modelling and animation

I want 2-4 gbs of ram

a motherboard which can support 4 ram slots or even more

a very fast dual proccesor

and a very good graphich card

now im an intel person and dont know shit about amd but I heard good things about it

this is the intel proccesor I found which I think is good P4 3.0 Ghz S-775 2x2M Cache DUAL-CORE

(amd help would be appriciated aswell)

and ofcource I want two monitors and the two comps attached to eachother to speed the beast even more and to make a little render farm in my house

now I need every little help you can contribute for me

Go for the AMD Dual Opteron
Motherboard, a decent one that supports the dual opteron
10,000RPM SCSI hardrive would be nice
Kingston RAM ( the best)
Graphics card: (Anything not ATI) get PCI express.

As for attatching the comps together? You can't do this and expect a speed boost, you can network for additional storage capacity but you certainly won't get any speed increase.

Btw, your current PC is pretty good (a lot better than average) with a simple memory upgrade, hardrive upgrade and perhaps a new video card you'd see a big performance increase. Although your specifications depend on the applications you wish to run.

my motherboard have only 2 slots of ram

and yeah I do have a good comp its just that I want to render faster...much more faster (video and 3d)

so I wont have any speed boosting up?

ohh G lets say il just upgrade my old comp and I want to connect two monitors to one computer for editing etc...how can I do that?

Well, if you purchase a new better PC you will have a speed boost, but networking your old PC to your new PC will not speed it up, perhaps even slow it down.

As for dual monitors, your graphics card seems like it's quite modern so you should have 2 ports on the back of it, buy a cable which fits the port that your monitor is not plugged into and viola. You can configure your graphics card software to split it into 2 screens.

but I have a wierd bigger port that wont fit a regular monitor port

You don't need a splitter, just a cable for that bigger white port to plug into another monitor. Try source on locally of through the net.

Well, I'd say where only just moving into the 1GB Ram age now.

I mean, most new games still run off 512mb with ease, and 512 is easy enough for businesses and what not, 2GB should be fine for many years to come.

I mean, anymore is awesome, but I don't think you will really need it, unless you can get it fair cheap, like, instead of spending an extra 400 on another GB.

don't waste your money on ATI, $2,500 is more than enough to build a top of the line system.

I would go with amd over intel do to it's price, intel vs. amd when it comes to editing really isn't that big of a deal. nvidia is overall a better product in the long run.
