So a general discussion about teenagers and their attitude problems.
What do you think causes teenagers these days to contradict their parents, gobble their food and act disrespectfull in every way? Have you ever been disrespectful and a general ass to your parents? What would you do if your kids did the same?
Personally, I think kids these days need a huge beating to surpress their arrogance and to show them they're a number not the most important thing walking on this planet. There seems to be an abundence of teenagers who are violent towards adults these days, is this correct?
A good percentage of teenagers these days don't deserve life, of course the make up of this board is typically different to your average teen as you all are mature enough to reason with, but for the majority it seems the future and integrity of this planet is shady with all the shit we have in the present day world.
What's your view.

Parents just don't understand

most teens have a thing against authority, the parents want what's best for them, and teens feel trapped, as if all their rights have been discarded. they feel totally threatened as if they no longer have freedom, and take the smallest things for granted. my girlfriend fights with her mom a lot, and I've been there during disputes and it's so aggravating to watch, cause she just doesn't keep her mouth shut, and some parents (like her mom) just pick and pick and pick until the teen eruptes into anger, and acts like they did nothing.
I fought with my mom, but never my dad. my mom was on meds that caused her in time to develope a split personality, so it was hard to avoid conflicts. really hard.
I'll probably be like my dad to my kids, I don't really like kids that much, the ones that constantly want to be around, and just bug you with question after question, I hope to god I don't have a kid like that. I want one that is normal, a little trouble here and there, but knows when to quit. and when you put your hand down, they back off. my dad is like that, lets things slide, but eventually when you really fuck up, you'll know it. and you avoid it cause you have never seen your dad pissed, and you don't want to see him. it's like a quiet person, they seem nice, but could snap at any moment and chop heads off.

I agree with your opinion there, it can be a combination of the teenager feeling trapped however if the parents are too lax the teen usually has a far worse behavioural problem. As for the parent "picking and picking", that is entirely true, however doesn't justify the teens behaviour. Most problems with teenagers are that when they don't get what they want, they don't like it and will let their parents damn well know it.

I don't know, if you're already pissed and smart off to your mom or dad, and they smart off back, that's not a good thing, and I believe most anger issues come from that, cause in the end it leads to kids stomping off, yelling obsecene words and slamming doors (which I hate hearing). that's what I justify as "picking". kid doesn't know when to stfu, and then the parent has to get the last word in. pushing threats into the teens mind, causing uneeded problems.
30 April 2006, 22:19 UTC#6
Honestly, all my friends get in big arguements with there parents, cuss them out and so on for the stupidest shit like not being able to go to parties or shit like that. Right after they got caught with drugs or got suspended from school.
My Mom beat my ass when I did somthing retarded, if we disrespected her we got slapped, if we look like we might have been thinking about disrespecting her we got slapped. I don't pull that shit with my parents cause I relize I don't pay for shit around the house and I'm using there materials and there cash.
Most kids think they have the right to do shit, they fucking don't.
Even when my Mom over reacts It's not like my argueing is going to change her mind, she is set in her ways, if some little kid was argueing with me think I would listen? Fuck now.

I wasn't much of a hassle when I was a teen, I didn't get arrested, or come home drunk and beat my parents up for no cookies in the pantry. a few times I yelled for not getting to do something I really wanted, but when I was 18, I still asked permission for me to do stuff since I'm not under my own roof and rules. and most of the time if I was told no, I just shrugged it off, yet disappointed, but no need for arguements, I hate arguing. I guess that's what you call maturing.
when I was younger my mom gave me good discipline, if her hands were full, she'd find a way to hit me, once she kicked her shoe off into my face, I totally deserved it.

Well...teens have always acted this way...it's just how it is. The only difference now is that it's more severe, I think it's a result of leniant parenting in early childhood that results in adolescents to become more disrespectful and violent when they begin to come of age. Kids always have rebelled at this age, not because they don't deserve life or because they just want to be assholes, it's because they DON'T know what the hell they want to do. They're becoming their own people and developing into what they will be for the rest of their lives.
If early on in their childhood they were not raised very strictly, they'll be more apt to not have as much respect for their parents/authority figures in their lives growing up. Not saying I blame the parents for all of the problems, there's alot more to it now.
I would blame the internet. Hell, today, literally any information in the entire world can be accessed in seconds. That's a hell of a lot of power. Power that this generation's parents didn't have when they were younger. Power that is relatively new and foreign to many parents but familiar to almost all adolescents. There's so many things online that kids can access that support and propagate a rebilious lifestyle and it only perpetuates the adolescent's mindset of invincibility. The same goes with TV. But to say that alot of them don't deserve life and do deserve severe beatings isn't fair.
It's like blaming the African Americans after the Civil War for not being able to obtain jobs or a place to live. They weren't used to being on their own and independent, they didn't know where to go or what to do. That's the same with today's kids (to a lesser extent). The kids have had everything laid in front of them to come into their own, but they don't have the tools or skills to do so. So they resort to what everyone resorts to, fear and violence. But I don't blame them, I blame Al Gore, he invented the internet.
EDOT- Sorry bout not paragraphing.

All depends how the kid is raised.
If their mum and dad let them do whatever they wanted and just bought them everything they wanted... that grows on them and they start sucking at life because they arn't ready too face the real world, when it comes too anybody challenging them they either keep it inside until it explodes one day/ suicide, or maybe they will just act cheeky at any remark anyone makes about them, etc, e.g. at school.
Also if their raised in a "rough" area they get lost, follow the wrong crowd and head into the direction of FUCKED UP, some become drug addicts and strive too live off them, others feel they have nothing too live for and fight with their parents all the time. Etc.
It's all about creating the perfect kid, lol, it is though.
People where everyday tasks come easy too them will be more successful in a way, they know where they are heading....
Acting cheeky too parents and other adults is just how it goes, and it won't change for along time.
I am a teenager myself, maybe you HAVE been but I'm down as it is today, yo!
EDIT: Ray, paragraphs? jeeeez...
30 April 2006, 22:35 UTC#11
Giving cheek to adults aint gonna change, because its a way of growing up everyone has done it and it aint gonna stop anytime soon imo
30 April 2006, 22:38 UTC#12
Parents let shit behavior go at a younge age thinking all kids do it at some point in time.
Not my Mom, and I'm a better person for it, who wets the bed and rapes dogs.

Yeah, I agree with that completely
And also, the perfect kid thing, parents these days are playing Beethoven and Bach in their kids' ears in their crib when they sleep to help them become artsy intellectuals in the future. It's ridiculous. Successful/intelligent people are not made by playing classical music in their ears, it's earned. Raise your kid right and they'll grow up right. Don't try to disguise poor parenting with far-out methodology and expensive counseling. It's a waste of time and money that could be used to truly benefit the child.
COLLEGE.

Fuck that I'm gonna buy lottery tickets while my kid is growing up, fuck college and cloths for him. He can work doing telemarketing paying for my lotto tickets.
And when were kagillionares we will look back on the neglect and laugh.

01 May 2006, 07:11 UTC#18
Its how kids act at an early age and what they get away with, if the parents let little things slide early, then when they get older they will think it is ok to treat people like that.
There is no discipline.
01 May 2006, 09:37 UTC#19
It's because they're old enough to see there is more to the world than playing in a park but not old enough to do it. You feel suffocated and haven't learnt how to controll yourself properly and at that age you've got no real responsibilities so you just don't care what you say or do.
Familiality breeds comtempt, then times that by puberty and you've got one angry kid.
I don't know about anyone else but at the moment I love my space. I like to have time alone where I can just be myself and do what I want to do, which is especialy bad as a share an office with my dad, and when he does business or whatever, like having to listen to one half of a phone conversation, I can't even explain why it's irratating but it just is.
Me and my dad have exactly the same personality as well, the sort of personality where you can argue a point (and win) even if you know you're wrong and you're always sure you're right. Put two people together and it's gonna blow up, especialy as we are both sarky dickheads.
I know that they deserve some level of respect for feeding and letting us live in their house etc but it's not like most kids just get it, they do have to do things around the house. We built our house ourselves pretty much and the amount of work I had to do on it is close to forced labour, allthough there was this cool day where my dad gave me a crowbar and told me to 'knock down this wall'. Also I HATE to ask my parents for anything, I hate to have them do anything for me becuase I know I will owe them something and I know I'm too much of a shitty kid to be good.
01 May 2006, 09:39 UTC#20
I get my gang to smash my parents,.
nah but seriously, it depends on the parents not the kids how their personality is shaped
