Looking to buy my first camera

Yeah, so after a while of having only the camera on my phone, I've decided to put a little money together to buy a proper one. I've got about $200-$400 NZ$ to spend. If anyone could gimme tips on cheap, but good cameras, that'd be wicked.

I was looking on www.trademe.co.nz and found some cheap ones. Theyre missing a few things but, if they are cheap, and people think they are good deals I might buy one of them instead.

Recommendations welcome. Just think if you had say $200-$00 to spend, what sort of cam would you go for?

You can't really buy anything decent brand new for that price range, but that sony with the fisheye would be a good choice.

How much were GMC's cameras? I assume they were sorta the same ting (Mini DV etc)?

I got a JVC which I bought last year and hardly use if you are interested im looking for aroudn £100-£150 which is around the $200

I bought it while I was in america, $600 USD as an ex display-model. 1.5 megapixel, pretty dece, haven't really filmed with it much though.

I'm leaning towards that sony aye. Do you know what sort a $$ I would have to spend to get it up to *putting-vids-on-net* standard? (from the sounds of it, it needs Mini DV tapes (or a memory card) and leads to got to da computa).

PS: One more thing, if I got this, would I have to get software so I could get the video from the camera to computer? Soz fo bein such a n00balicious.

You will need a firewire cable, a firewire card, and some type of editing software for capturing the footage, most computers come with Windows Movie Maker pre-installed, you can use this.

That sony will do everything you need. You'll need a firewire card in your computer, and a firewire cable to upload footage, and you can get the software online, or use windows movie maker, capeche?

Off topic.. but that's probably the most comical electronics store I've ever heard of.

I have that exact Sony cam, but I'm getting a new one soon... it's fine, it's just my dad won't even let me use it anymore.

I have a Sony, a JVC, and two Canons. All are very good, ant the JVC is suprosingly great considering I got it used on eBay and it's a little old. In some conditions it's better than my two Canons, which are both less than a year old.

How mcuh do bits for it cost, do you know? From the sounds of it it needs a Mini DV tape. I can get the firewire shit from some electronic store. Does it need an external battery charger? The guy made it sound like it can charge itself or something. Image file not present in the recovered backup

get that sony dcr. Im 99% sure that is the camera we had that got stolen, it films at a pretty high quality, no one ever complained about videos we filmed with it. I miss that camera. I didn't realize how good of quality it had until we got another miniDV and it was pure shit.

The bottom pic on the right is the charger lead, that's too charge it of course, soo no it doesn't charge itself.

Yeah, you will need Mini DV Tapes, I recommend JVC ones, as when I first bought that cam they didn't give us any tapes, I went back and picked up some random DV tape, and asked if this was the one I needed for my cam, and she just said no you need these JVC ones for your camcorder, I didn't think it made a difference (I'm still pretty sure it doesn't) but I'd just get those JVC tapes, their high quality, 60min SP, 90mins LP.

Also, he didn't state what battery he had, if it's the default one thats only 90mins, I recommend getting a larger one.
I can recommend a few batteries compatiable with it for you soon, if you wan't me too.

Also I can show you the exact memory card you will need if you wan't it? the memory card is just for taking still pictures, although it's better too just get a screen cap really.

Also the nightshot is wonderful, theirs also super nightshot too (takes more battery up though) and also theirs four cool settings you can choose for when your shooting in low-light and theres tons more options you can do, like manual focus and stuff (although auto works great)

I seriously recommend this cam, I remember my friend dropping it once from about waist height onto concrete, and it was fine, just scrathes, it's been bumped around alot too, when I had it I used too use it for recording stuff off of my DVD player onto Mini DV tapes and capping them onto the PC (non-stop) and recording stuff with it all the time and it's just a sweet cam, still rivals the Mini DV cams of today (at the same RRP price of course) imo.
