what I think about...

well the word mainstream is so over-used today I think band like bullet who now have a mainstream sucsess haven't changed there music much it's just there are wannabe's so that type of music is popular I don't think the music has changed much at all such as trivium they have become mainstrean but they still scream all the same so I don't what people are complaining about there omg!! heavy metal is popular I'm a huge fan of it but I hate bands that are mainstream it's the fans that join the trend they haven't changed much at all I get kinda pissed off with all this bitching omg!! there so mainstream it's so shit. the fans should stay loyal to the bands that haven't changed there music and made it mainstream they should be happy the people who make great music are finally makeing the money they deserve to make.. most of you problerly disagree with what I say because I have rambled on and haven't really put the point across that I wanted to but I think that gives a general idea,so what do you feel about the whole mainstream thing??

You should post that, in the Underrated-Overrated bands threads, there was a discussion about mainstream and anal sex there. I think will be better if you do it better.

It's not over-used, 90% of the time when you talking about a band going mainstream, they ARE going mainstream, but there a few bands that stay the same. I think bullet is one of them, but I don't like them anyways

I hate people that will decide not too like a band anymore just because they have had success and more than 10 people know about them. It pisses me off so fuckign much. People like aint music lovers, they are people who listen too music to try and seem cool, or alternative.

Fair enough, if the band changes it's style to become 'mainstream' yeah, if they have cahnged to a new stlye or sound you don't like....don't listen to them anymore. But if they are the same band just with a bigger auidience why hate them? More people now get to hear and enjoy theur music, why should you stop?

As long as you can clearly read its ok, just take that little bit extra time to check what you wrote. No problem man.

Sorry, couldn't understand what you were trying to say, so I'll just kick in my tuppence.

I think the problem is that people label bands as mainstream as if it's a bad thing, when it really isn't. People get so pissed off that the bands they like make it big because they can't brag to their scene friends about their obscure taste in music.
So when a band breaks into the mainstream they start ranting about how they're "sellouts" when the band is just playing exactly the same music to a wider audience. I think people need to rethink the meaning of the word mainstream, that's all.

I think that the biggest sellouts of all time, are blink-182.

They were ok , when they went mainstream in enema and takeof, but their last album.. it fuckin sucked.

Everything was good before travies.. that fag.

But it's not always the band playing exactly the same music to a wider audience.
A band like Lost Prophets had a great first album which I really enjoyed, the second one was really poor. I don't have a problem with bands becoming mainstream, I just hate it when they change for the worse to suit the music industry or to adapt to new fans.

IN response to what mono said bands aren't going to keep playing with the same style all their life otehrwise it would get fucking boring, just because they change their style does not mean they're doing it to attract new fans or to suit certain criteria it might just be because they fancied experimenting with their music and coming out of it better.

A prime example I can think of is metallica, great up untill the 90's got egotistical and fucked shit up and made load and re load. then did saint anger again a completeley different style, very agressive and angry, sorted out their differences through that and I read an article today they're making a new albumn in their more origional style. Bands are going to change styles through extended periods of time and I think people should just accept that rather than call them sellouts or say they changed for bullshit reasons...
