HGF just caused the cold media server to go down for a bit. This is starting to look hopeless. This forum is just to heavy of an application. The type of server it needs to run smooth is gonna cost a fuckload.
Any suggestions?
05 April 2006, 19:04 UTC#2
How much is it gonna cost to get it sorted?
05 April 2006, 19:05 UTC#3
Would deleting older threads help anything? Or inactive accounts?
05 April 2006, 19:07 UTC#4
Just delete the whole thing. Never liked this place anyways.
But um, yeah maybe deleting older threads could help?
05 April 2006, 19:07 UTC#5
Lets post in the Comments of efukt and leave HGF.

Ah ok.. try a BIG ASS company that you know can handle HGF. because at the moment HGF is slow when posting and I keep having videos freeze on efukt and sometimes I get a dns error.
if HGF is doing it then... it will effect efukt and its doing well
How much BW does hgf use a month?
05 April 2006, 19:19 UTC#9
you'll probably have to do like entensity.. close sign ups every now and then, remove inactive members who don't post for 30 days.

But it may not be just the sql db doing it. It just may be the servers your using not being able to handel everything (All the sites at once) a big main server should no problem.
How big is the HGF database?
05 April 2006, 20:01 UTC#11
Well.. maybe we can restart the forums. I dont know.
Just keep the users database (post number and shit) and erase all posts.
05 April 2006, 20:04 UTC#12
Erase all posts?! fuck that!
05 April 2006, 20:07 UTC#13
Add reply button has a green bar. wtf is that
05 April 2006, 20:34 UTC#14
buy a server of your own or get ad's... real ad's... oooor call bill gates and ask him nicely for a free data center...
05 April 2006, 21:07 UTC#15
Man I don't think its the server, gman did some stuff and it screwed some stuff, hes not around so I've emailed him. Hope he gets it soon.

Sorry to not have posted in awhile and then come out of the blue on a topic like this and do so, but I think the best option is to start by laying out each of the problems one by one and then tackle them one by one, otherwise nothing will be sorted.

Well...this is just a suggestion, and it would take a lot of work and time, but I was thinking, since there are countless retarded and completely unnescessary threads, that a group of trusted and dedicated loyal members could be temporarially modded in order to sort through the entire forum database and delete such threads. I realize this would be a time consuming process, but I think it would be benificial if many of the blatantly useless threads were simply deleted. I personally would volunteer to help out in this process, seeing as I have quite a bit of free time to fuck around on here anyway, and I would dedicate even more time to something that would help keep the forums alive, as I REALLY don't want to see this place disappear. I'm sure most others feel the same way, so if anyone here more savvy with forums and servers feels my suggestion would be a valid aid in solving this problem, please speak up.
Additionally, the "pointlessness" of threads would be decided entirely at this group of moderator's discrestion, therefore, as I stated earlier, they would have to be trustworthy. I feel that it should be quite obvious which threads are useless though, so that part shouldn't be a really big deal.

I dont "think" its the database anyway. IPB does a good job is keeping it easy to read... The size wont make much difference unless the server is too small. But IPB has a prune function which could be used to do this easy without many admons/mods needing to work.
from whats been said it looks like a server issue that can be fixed...

nvm

Just erase all post.
Damn.

It's not a problem with the coldmedia server, I've recompiled all modules and it's functioning correctly. The problem lies in this forum, it's a heavy application with all the modifications that have been made. Now that traffic is being thrusted at HGF at peak times, it's really not suitable for anything other than a semi-dedicated environment. Ideally HGF and eFUKT need to be moved to their own server with perhaps a dedicated MySQL server when we can afford it.
I'm gonna try and optimise this database, although eventually we *may* have to consider making the portal a secondary feature and not the primary index page.

Please try to avoid that. In my opinion ckf started to go downhill the first time they lost the portal..
What are these other modifications you're talkin about? Could they be removed?
