DVD producing

I know some people are in the process of making a DVD, me included, and I was just wondering if anyone can give us some pointers, or lead us to some good tutorial site that would list all the important phases and the things you have to remember when you make a DVD.

Meaning stuff like should I deinterlace the movie before putting it on a DVD, what format should the movie be exported in, what's the best program to use when creating the DVD etc etc.

I'd love to hear some pointers from the experienced people here who have made DVD's before or just know how everything is done and what's important to remember when you make a DVD.

If you want the best picture save all you stuff as uncompressed AVI, but this take up a ton of space so if you just want DVD quality save it all as MPEG 2.

The program you use shouldnt make any difference in the quality because its all digital. The only real difference in the programs are menu templates.

I think you should make 2 DVDS one for your hometown and one for hgfers. Because people in your hometown seem to like everything thats funny and stuff but we kinda like different things. Dont really know about you guys but when we made our 1st movie everyone in our town really like the things that our group least expected.Also dont make anything carry on.

Don't de-interlace - better for watching on TV.

Export in mpeg-2 and use Adobe Encore

if you are making a dvd-video then all the files will be converted to mpeg-2 so, yes you can burn that, but after the buring software converts the files.

Mpeg-2 is great, a 5 minute video will be compressed to about 60mb yet still be lossless.


Viewing it on a pc is fine, it's just when you export it otherwise interlaced, the changed ratio makes the interlacing show up a lot more.

I use "DVD-Lab Pro" really simple to use but does most of the advanced things such as subtitles, extra audio tracks, secret menus etc.........

Yeah I agree with the "2 dvd" concept. I hate it but I guess its necessary. People are pussies, whether its nudity or stuff thats "too gross" or way too graphic, "regular people" have extremely different tastes than stunt kids because their tolerance is much different. It'd be a pain but definitely worth it. Any advice on how to go through the movie? do you just make it like a big mixup or go from stunts to skits and so on and transition or what? I've a general idea of what we're doing but I'd like some advice.

You do whatever you think is best.

(well of course) it just would seem boring or like overkill to have stunt after stunt. we're doing interviews in between stunts and skits and stuff in order to give some insight on events that are taking place or just about us and whatnot.
