installing a shoutcast radio

well I want to open my own radio on my server and I need to know what I need for this

do I need a specific server for this etc etc

please help me

You can either run it off your home computer or a webserver. If your connection speed is too slow then you can pay me $10 a month and I'll shove it on the HGF server, the 10 dollars covers the bandwidth you'll use. You'll need the DSP client to broadcast to the server and this plugs into winamp (available from shoutcast.com)

All in all, fairly simple.

I 've done some stuff with that before. The first time I tried setting it up, it took about 8 hours, BUT the reason for that was because I like to go through stuff and see how it all works. When I had to re-install the system, it took me about 15 minutes.

It's pretty straight forward if you just go to the site and install what they say you need. As far as a server goes, I've got broadband, so I host my own station....although I rarely ever turn it on.

The most annoying thing about installing that in my opinion is making sure the port numbers are right so that the server is set up correctly. Otherwise, I hope it goes well for you. And of course, I'm always happy to help.

I had a shoutcast radio station for a while now (but I stopped cos I just didnt have the time with editing video n everything)
I wrote a instruction document in step-by-step details of everything to do but I deleted it ages ago after the person who needed it had read it.
Anyway its easy all u need to do is go to....

and install the relevent server to your PC (Linux, mac, Windows etc...) if you want to use the server on your own computer.

and install the Winamp plugin and select it in the winamp prefrences then fill in the details and away u go....
(Just make sure you got the server to "localhost" if its on your PC and obviously u need the server thingy running at the same time)

I had shit loads of trouble with a 'NAK' error (Caused by firewalls and routers) theres a section in there forums if u get that error.

I know how to open it on my pc what I need to know is how I can install it on my server so it wont change ips and would have a better quality and much more listeners

Oh ok sorry for the misunderstanding there but yeh anyways....
in the server console/GUI choose "Edit config" and all the stuff to change the quality, maximum number of listeners etc... is in there simply change it, save, restart the server program.

But it mainly depends on how fast your upload speed is, and your internet connection, I got 2mb broadband and I can hold a maximum of about 4 listeners before it starts re-buffering all the time.

And the IP Shiznaz is pretty simple, if you have a dynamic IP address, simply go to http://www.dyndns.com and sign up (its free) and put in your new IP address everytime u broadcast (Or u can download a program that automatically updates it but I dunno where from sorry I cant remember) and u choose a DNS address, and when people want to listen they type in http://YOUR_DNS_ADDRESS:8000 and click listen

I have a 1.5 mb cable

I can download at 200 kb but my upload speed is 16 kb

so this means even if I have a server I cant get way more listeners then 4?

if you get a server you can handle as many listeners as the server line can handle...if you go with G's server it would be either a 10mbs or 100mbs line (cant remember) but it will be more than enough for what your doing.

There are many cheap servers you can use too, it all depends on how high quality u wanna broadcast at.

the lowest quality = the maximum listeners and visa versa.
