For some reason, whenever I open 'my documents' on this computer, it comes up with an error report message & closes the window. Same thing happens when I try to upload pics from my documents, just freezes firefox.
Helplz.
Also, my DVD burner no longer reads CD's, it just plays DVD's, won't burn either. There's no new driver to download or anything.
Helplz.
And finally, my external hard drive & camera no longer show up when I connect them to this computer.

I would say the documents thing is spyware/virus', it will likely corrupt windows data and prevent programs or system processes from starting up properly.
Scan yo PC.

Not until I back my shit up nig. I had a peek in the computer box, & I think one of the bits connecting my cd drive & another box is sorta munted, so that might be it.

get a DVD/CD cleaner. If it is not reading then its the drive.

Scandisk, virus check then if you cant fix it go into safe mode (f8 before windows loads) choose with network support if you are gonna upload your files to a comp on the network or the web, otherwise just get your files onto some other media - for example your external HDD. Then format the disk.

When I run scandisk on C drive it just stops at 98%. I'll try that CD cleaner thing though..

Sounds like your PC is infected with a trojan or virus. Only option is to reformat really as the virus would've modified your registry boyond what's worth repairing. If reformatting is not an immediate option, download AVG antivirus free edition from download.com, scan and remove any viruses, give your PC a scan with spybot search and destroy (also available from download.com) then when you've removed all the shite, take your XP CD and do a system repair. Be aware that the system repair option you need to use is when you get to the format screen on the XP setup wizard, you'll see a repair option if you select your primary hardrive. That should fix the problems with the registry and explorer, although you may need to re-install your system drivers. Make sure you find your make of motherboard and download these before you repair or re-format.
If the problem with the CD drive is not fixed then, which I find highly unlikely (drives rarely fail in the way you described) then buy a head cleaner, if it still doesn't work after that..get a new drive.
