The worlds smallest and least expensive HD camcorder, the HC1, has already been discontinued and replaced by the HC3. The HC1 was only out for about half a year before they took it off the market. This is why I will definitely be waiting a long while before I start to consider making the move to HD.

Fuck HD, way too expensive. Plus my computer freezes whenever I try to play a video saved in HD.

yeh but to have a HD camcorder dont you need to have special monitors and computer equipment and such?? my uni has just bought bout 5 panasonic ones but I aint allowed to take em out until third yr

From what I hear, you can only see the difference of HD on an actual HD monitor or HD TV set.

Yep this is true.
You can still film in regular DV on the HC1 though.

Why was it discontinued?
Im in the market for a HD Cam, just got a HDTV and want to see it pump out at 1080i

it was discontinued because this one is better and cheaper.. sony is trying to make HD aviable to everyone..

As Brent said, Sony is pushing to make High Definition a standard in the camcorder industry. It stripped the HC1 of some of its more advanced features, sized it down a bit, and reduced the price tag by about $300.
It was discontinued simply because it was upgraded and replaced.
