An international group of lifelong James Bond
announced the publication of a new website, www.craignotbond.com.
The purpose of this site is to protest Bond producer Barbara Broccoli's
questionable decision to fire popular Bond star Pierce Brosnan and replace him
with an unknown actor with a penchant for oddball roles, Daniel Craig. They also
seek to initiate a worldwide boycott of the upcoming Bond film, Casino Royale.
"EON Productions angered fans around the world when they fired Pierce
Brosnan at the height of his popularity as Bond. To add insult to injury, EON cast
a short, blond, odd-looking Daniel Craig in the role of Bond. Craig, described by
the New York Times as having a 'pale, flattened face and large, fleshy ears' is a
terrible choice for Bond. If EON Productions and Sony Pictures will not accept
they've made a big mistake, then Bond fans promise to boycott Casino Royale!"
The website's creators pointed out that the movie business, like any other,
depends upon the patronage of its customers.
"The opinion of Bond fans should be first in the minds of EON and Sony. There
was such a negative outcry when they let go of Pierce Brosnan. Even if it was
impossible in their minds to bring him back, there were dozens of actors available
to play the part. Hugh Jackman and Clive Owen both practically lobbied for the
part, and would have been suitable successors for Brosnan."
"It is clear to us that EON simply did not want to put up the money necessary to
bring back Brosnan, or bring name actors like Jackman or Owen to the table. And
now, because of EON' s shortsightedness and recurrent frugality, they expect us
to accept Daniel Craig as Bond without blinking an eye. As Bond fans and as loyal
customers we say bollocks to EON and Sony Pictures!"
"Even in the movie business, the old saying that 'the customer is always right'
holds true. Since EON and Sony Pictures have chosen to ignore their most loyal
customers, we have no choice but to boycott the 21st James Bond film, Casino
Royale."
"We call upon Bond fans around the world to join us in this boycott. If we all stand
together, and stay home when this ill-conceived movie is released, it will send a
message to EON once and for all, that the sacred trust of Ian Fleming's iconic hero
James Bond belongs not to them, but to all of the James Bond fans across the
globe!"
