Normal is defined by the average people to describe their own behaviour.
Watching HG videos I can see stuff considered unnormal, deviant, like jumping into bushes, spit fire in others face, set your hair on fire, staple your forehead, nailing one's foreskin to the table, tagging, spraypainting, etc.
Why do you do this?
I first thought you do this for excitement, and to show your friends how brave you are. There is a saying "His life is too good so he has no idea what to do with it".
I've talked to an old man about this. He was a teacher so he has experience with teens and young adults. He told me that most likely this "unnormal" behaviour is the result of you compensating on something missing from, or isn't in order in your life. E.g. divorced parents, missing family members, alcoholic or brutal father, poverty, neglect, etc. I know some of you have such problems in your lives, but I don't know if that is related to your behaviour.
This topic may sound too serious, but I really wonder what do you think about this.
Please refrain from short and pointless answers like "dumbass", "ip ban him", "fag" etc. Image file not present in the recovered backup
And for those, who don't like to read that much, here are the short questions:
Why do you do stunts? Is it because excitement? Is it because something wrong with your family? Can it be related? Or is it to be different from the average?

Lol. My Dad hits me so I jump into bushes.
24 February 2006, 14:13 UTC#4
Nah it does make a bit of sense though you notice around this place a lot of people have conflicts with their rents or like come from "broken homes" I ain't being patronising here cos my rents are split up too and sht like that sticks with you, it's not directly related like neka said lol, but like you know having problems in your life at an early age can effect people and I think it might be liked with certain behaviour types, not saying that all hgers have to have fucked lifes but you know some people may have turned to this sorta scene due to it, I know I started skating cos I had hardly any mates and it was a way to get away from it all and something that cna be achieved on your own, if I had never started skating I probably would never have got into this sorta scene...

Thanks, chorus. This is the second very good post in a day from you (what I've read).

dude u don't get it, if it was due to subconscious reasons they wouldn't know about it thus the term subconscious... like neka said, it's not directly linked like my dad hits me im gonna jump into a bush, but life traumas can have affects on the actions people will take or things they chose to do, wether they know about it or not

Yes, I see. Thank you for explaining.
Then, it must be a mixture of reasons, may be family problems, may be excitement, entertainment. What else?

Hmm could it be possible that people do this kind of stuff just for fun and not because their pet rabbit died etc.
Could the old man take this for an explanation?

Indeed he can, s0ome people do this shit just cause it entertains them etc. some might think they're doing it for that but actually started doing stuff of this genre due to other deep lying reasons...

I love the rush you get after doing a stunt and then watching it back and your like fuck I did that! I also find it funny as fuck to watch back on somehings like if your mate does a jump and flops like a sack of shit you just got to laugh.
24 February 2006, 15:09 UTC#14
I dont jump in bushes so this doesnt apply to me!
'I film my life, and the lives around me. The camera is simply a spectator'

So adrenalin rush also in the game.
One more related question: How much does it add to know that a cam is rolling, so you can watch back the stunts, show it around here? Or do you do stunts just for fun, even if no one has a cam around? Just the group watching? Obviously if no one watching, there is no point doing it?

Don't know if you're talking to me, but I don't do stunts. I enjoy filming what I do because it's fun to share with others and re-live the moment.

Nah, it wasn't directed to you, Weak, it was a general question to whoever do stunts. But your answer is applicable to my question.
Weak, you film porn also? I guess I'd like to see that. But saw some pics/footage about filming porn, and it looked as a job, it was like industrial production, instructions, some men injected something in their penises to stay hard. Wasn't as fine as the finished films.
But this is rather off-topic.

I love filming and editing. It's what I wanna do when I get older so I start now and I call this "practice". Plus I'm enjoying every minute going out there and doing what we do.
24 February 2006, 16:28 UTC#21
I wouldn't consider myself as a person who acts un-normal. I'm actually a very down to earth person and don't act outrageously (unlike other members of DR, I.e Louzy Hero)
I don't film stunts for attention or because I've suffered abuse in my life, neither do I feel there is anything major missing from it.
I guess I film because I want to entertain people, I want to create something which makes people laugh and cringe at. I also enjoy the creative side of it, thinking of ideas, angles, editing etc.
Its also to document stuff, I film most of the time when we go out, even if it isn't stunt footage.
I also suppose adrenaline comes into it, the rush of perfoming or seeing a stunt is a great feeling, especially when you know it isn't "appropriate".

Doing a stunt of any kind, even if no-ones there, gives you a sense of personal achievement. For me, that feeling of achievement gets multiplied many times over if I know that other people are gonna see it.
And its not just the actually action of doing atunts which is good, its the stuff you do afterwadrs, like the editing, and watching what you've done. I dont edit for our team, but it gives me a real thrill to see something that we've worked hard on in a shit hot mix-up.

I don't think a stunt holds as much value if no one see's it. What's the point of doing a stunt if there is no one to see it? Personal gain? There isn't much to be gained from stunts but the aesthetics of a stunt is the main reason we do them I think. The reason people do stunts is to entertain others, only a few people can say they do stunts to push their body to it's limits like dang and steve-o, people that just go stupidly hardcore... the only other reason I could see for doing stunts is for the way it looks, or to entertain other people...
If you were on your own you wouldn't jump off a huge height or do some of the shit people do here regularly because there would be no one to appreciate it

theres a point in stunts if your jumping off shit for the rush of jumping off shit etc, doesnt matter if your being watched, the rush is enough =]
