After over a year of trying to buy a professional 3ccd camera, I've finally done it! I just shelled out $1450 on a refurbished DVC30 which has ZERO hours on it!
For another $100 I couldve bought one new, but the person selling that one had bad feedback and a reputation for pushy upselling and not shipping for weeks. So I decided just to play it safe...cause I wanna have this camera in my hands ASAP.
It should be here in around a week. I'm totally stoked. I've been in the core of Los Angeles for 4 months now, surrounded by crackheads and crime, and I havent filmed jackshit. Now I finally can get back to what I do best!
Here is what it looks like

Yep thats the one. From what Ive read, the camera has great value. Camcorderinfo.com reviewed it as one of the best 1/4 inch 3ccd cameras on the market, better than the GL2 and TRV950 and much less expensive. It is also is the only professional camera to offer to a night vision mode. I cant wait to test this cam out.

Ive never actually owned a professional camera. I've had a dozen different consumer cameras, but nothing special. I'd just end up returning them to Costco a couple months later.
My friend did have a vx2100 which we used for a long time up until it was confiscated by the police. Then we went on to rent pd150s from our local cable access station.
So this is my first professional camera. The last camera I had was a 3ccd Panasonic PV-GS150 and it was an utter piece of shit. I returned it it so that I would be able to get the DVC30. I'm totally stoked to test out this cam cause it's alot different from the cameras Im used to using like the vx2100. I'll post a full review once it gets here. Honestly, this is the best camera for any homegrown group that wants to take it up a notch without spending a 2 grand. There is a full $700 difference between the DVC30 and VX2100. This cam has great value

How much is it then? 1700?

I got this DVC30 for $1450 solid. The vx2100s average around $2200.

Just hope you don't get mugged when carrying around a beast like that.

Is this camera better than a VX?
09 February 2006, 17:45 UTC#24
That thing looks awesome! Can't wait to see the footage that comes from it

09 February 2006, 18:36 UTC#25

yeah dude..seriously...thats my biggest concern. I can picture some of these crackheads trying to jack it from in straight broad daylight. Im gonna put the strap around my neck when I go out filming....I'll look like a tourist...but its better than getting jacked.

Is this camera better than a VX?
No not at all. A vx2100 uses 1/3rd inch chips, so it does much better in low light and has a more crisp image. The dvc30 uses 1/4th inch chips, just like the trv950 and GL2. In comparison to the other 1/4th inch chip camcorders, the DVC30 has been reviewed as one of the best.
09 February 2006, 20:02 UTC#27
Looks good man, can't wait to see some footage
09 February 2006, 20:06 UTC#28
