You know when you discover or find a small band that you just love and let no one else love...Well I know loads of us felt that and I always thought of Arctic Monkeys as my little band around here because nobody else knew about them around here. Now I see on MSN people playing their songs after, and get this, DMX, DJ Sammy, SUGABABES!!!!!!!!!!! and R Kelly now come on don't you hate mainstreamers...Or should I say SHEEP!
Gibbering over sorry.
Mainstreamers suck
08 February 2006, 22:09 UTC#2
So, the band hasn't changed, well not artic monkeys, so it shouldn't effect why you listen to them, not their fault people like them.
08 February 2006, 22:13 UTC#3
I know what you mean about knowing a small band. It sort of applies with me and cKy, I was a fan since 1999, and no one knew who they were. Now every fucking hoody wearing lil emo or mosher thing fucking wears their stuff like they're the number one fan. Pisses me off.
08 February 2006, 22:26 UTC#4
Penknifelovelife.
I'm 99% sure no one here would have ever heard of them apart from them if it wasn't for prom02.
Now so many groups have ripped them. Fuck them

It's that kind of comment that makes me hate people like you.
"I knew about them BEFORE they were cool!"
News flash genius: They were always cool. They just achieved what they were always out to achieve - recognition. So you heard about them before some other people? So what? It's still the same band, it's still the same sound. Does it make you a bigger fan? No. Does it make you any cooler? No. It means you came across them a little earlier than everyone else.
Congratulations. You are 'old skool'.
It's only a problem when a band becomes so recognised that they 'sell out' and change their image to suit the needs of their desired fans. The Arctic Monkeys still have the same sound they had from the start (albeit the album lacks the energy they used to have in their old demos

). When they start sounding like The Used, you can complain. Until then relax and enjoy the band.

bands like artic monkies only get big in the UK because of NME. If NME says its good, then everyone will go and like them because its the cool new thing to like because NME said it was. I bet they would be half as big as they are now without NME.
And this applys to more places then just the UK, only because the UK got them big.

I highly doubt that it was all NME's doing.

yeahh im sure its not all NME's doing, because you cant get that big without having alot of talent anyways.. Im just saying that without NME, they wouldnt be as far as they are now..

It's alright when a band goes mainstream and their Music stays the same but if they change their style just for money and become sell outs it pisses me off.
Such Bands as :
Green Day,
Slipknot,
KoRn,
Metallica...
And many many more.

I think you overestimate the influence of the NME. A lot of bands actually purposefully AVOID it, because it's becoming unfashionable to be credited by it.
It wasn't the NME. It was the internet. That is all.

Agreed.
I can't stand people that will like a band, listen to their music and stuff until the band hits it big and other people know about them. And once other people do know about them they will stop listetning purely because they dont want too be seen liking a 'popular' band. People like that don't listen too music and apreciate it they listen too the music too appear alternative. They aint real fans at all.
Chris it really hsouldn't effect you at all, if you did really like them you wouldnt change your opinions on them just because more people now get to enjoy their music.
09 February 2006, 10:34 UTC#15
ah thats the same with my chemical romance. I liked them back in 2004 and now there all over played and gay.
Also the same happened with panic! at the disco. I have gone way off them since all the townies and chavs in my school have started liking them and playing thier music.
I dont know why but I prefer the small little bands that no one has ever heard of instead of all these big bands like green day and such.
09 February 2006, 11:12 UTC#16
I honestly couldnt care less how big a band is but when little 13year old chavs with stupid fucking s/n's on msn start playing their songs and putting their lyrics in their s/n's it fucks me right off and I end up hating the band

why do ya end up hating them? If ya dont care how big they are why care there in someones screen name

Even if the band changes, whats the problem, if the music after the change is still good, there is no issue.

Sorry mate but thats called a varied taste in music. It's quite ok to listen to a song from a different genre one after the other and you're a fuckwit if you think differently

Why? Just because of who they are they can't listen?
Right, I forbid you to listen to rap, hip hop and RnB of any kind. Because you are a faggot in my eyes.
EDIT: Dammit, Sam said pretty much what I wanted to. Goddamn you, you sexy mare.

I've liked the Arctic Monkeys for a while, and I still like them now despite their sudden popularity...who cares...their still the same lads...even they hate their popularity. As for what was said about NME, all NME does is kiss their ass, they didnt get them where they were, every issue of NME for the past like 6 months has had something about the monkeys being amazing in it. The other week I bought it and someone had wrote in to say they thought they were a terrible band and the editor replied :
"Everyone of course is entitled to their opinions - it's just that yours is completly and utterly wrong and your attempts to swim against the tide represent the most obvious case of desperate whatever-everyone-does-I-shall-do-the-opposite. They're fantastic, their songs are fantastic, their lyrics are fantastic, and although no band is perfect, Arctic Monkeys are, and thats final. Glad we had this discussion"
The only thing that has pissed me off about the Monkeys popularity is that tickets for their gig sold out in like a hour or something ridiculous...and I really wanted to see them

It's because you only like a band for the label it gives you. You want too seem 'alternative'.
With my chemical romance has their style changed at all? I dont know I never really got into them. anyone know?

Again I've like MCR for ages and I still like them...I never understood all the "omg if more then two people like this band then im soooooooooo not gonna listen to them no more". I have a pretty random taste in music as it is...Personally I think, if you like a song, like it, fuck what genre it is.
